Rumour overdrive at the moment regarding Metcalf, but have read on a couple of forums that they’ve somehow heard that Metcalf has been diagnosed with chronic ligament damage to his hamstring. This is the result of persistent overloading, poor healing, or incomplete rehabilitation of an acute strain.

Obviously take this with a grain of salt, but it wouldn’t surprise me given his poor run with hammy injuries.

What a crock of shit eh.

PLucked straight from out my arse dot com.

Hey I have seen with me own eyes that he has amazing regenerative healing based off multiple injuries and return to off the mark speed time and time again.

How would they know?

Here's a thought - Metcalf's value to the warriors decreased when we signed AKP, and then Warbrick

Obviously the main reason for the club's position on his release is the existence of Boyd playing well, and Luke wanting out.

But out and out pace (which Metcalf was the only one in the side to offer) can now be supplied by AKP and Warbrick. So you basically have the attributes of Metcalf being spread across the team (Boyd, AKP, Warbrick and CHT), without the $900k price tag

I don’t think the Warriors will play Metcalf again in any grade until his deal for next year and beyond is fully sorted. The risk is too high. If he does his ACL again, potential suitors could walk away and the club may be left paying his 2027 wages while he rehabs and can’t play. This whole drama is probably a blessing in disguise for the club. Metcalf is very clearly not a team-first player and the types of injuries he has had tend to compound over time, making him way more vulnerable as his career goes on.

Beyond that, while he had plenty of personal highlight moments in 2025, the Warriors were generally eking out wins with him at halfback. The attack was predictable and flat, and despite his own view of himself, he never looked like a natural organiser. It is also telling that he was picking up Dally M points but not Players’ Player awards. The Dally Ms are media-driven, and once the media finds a narrative it likes, it tends to hammer it. Last season that narrative was “Metcalf is on fire”, so even when he was clearly not one of the best players on the field, he kept getting votes.

Webby brought him straight back into the side ahead of an in-form CHT, stuck with him for a second game despite a poor return, and then carried him on the bench while the team was on a three-match winning run. The Warriors also re-signed him on a major deal despite him barely playing first grade across seven years and being out injured for the season at the time. In the clearer light of time, I think he might look back and regret how this all played out.

The Warriors have dodged a bullet here. They get Boyd for less money, a genuine team player on the rise, and they reopen a pathway for Jett and Jack Thompson that looked blocked for several years. They can also upgrade some of the talented juniors coming through and look to strengthen areas of genuine need, like centre and fullback, at least until Ratcliffe is ready to take that spot.

Too right.

If the rumours about his hamstring being seriously buggered are true, maybe inside knowledge of that at Mt Smart made the decisions they’ve taken even more straightforward.

As things stand now, are we contracted to pay him $1.8m over two years if he doesn’t get another deal? I think that contract is now no longer valid in any respect, but…

Nice moneyball observation.

Channel 9 are reporting Dogs are out, after too much money. Which is surprising, the Dogs would know Metcalf is chasing a contract not a premiership. Dragons still keen. I hope he goes to Dragons, if he can stay on the park he would make them an interesting follow. Hopefully there isn't a Volkman situation on our hands.

The link name is a bit random, but DT reporting Metcalf is jetsetting across the tasman.

June 30 is apparently how long he wants to stay until.

I think it means he reportedly wants to stay for the season.

“Despite wanting an early exit, Metcalf has made it clear to the Warriors that he has no desire to leave before June 30.”

The dogs could be bluffing, sounds like he met Gus in akl a few weeks ago, Tuesday met drags, today dogs again? Or they don’t have the cap to fit him in this year, maybe dragons can? They better do their medical exam this time and stick with it, no refund for those clowns

Not sure if the article was edited or not. It states he doesn't want to leave before June 30. He he doesn't leave by then he'll need to see out the season.

Now this is the NRL and anything can happen. We are talking about our halfback who signed a contract last year already moving on. The meeting with management was for clarification about his role, now he's off exploring options.
