General Is the Metcalf experience to halves over?

Not a metcalf fan. At 7 anyway. Drifts in and out of games to much. Erin had to yell at him vs Bronx one part there. As he was at the back unsure where he was supposed to be on a set play. Everyone was in their positions except him.
And it happens often.

In saying that, Would like to see him to stay with the club and own a position. Whether its FB, 6 or 7. Has obvious speed & talent.
Didn't we see the exact same thing with TMM at 6 outside SJ.
DH waiting for him to get in position to get the ball . Seemed to have lost interest.

HYPE-MAN
Most former players will settle with a coaching gig post career, but Shaun Johnson might have just landed himself the role of hype man.
Young Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf channelled Shaun Johnson on Saturday as he iced a 50-metre penalty goal in golden point.
And Johnson, sporting a Warriors jersey in the stands at Mt Smart Stadium, was loving every bit of it.
Johnson was spotted whipping the crowd into a frenzy. But there is more to the moment than meets the eye.
Johnson actually wore a Broncos jersey to Mt Smart Stadium after losing a bet. He even pleaded with Warriors fans not to “bottle” him if they saw him in the enemy colours.
But his former side’s spirited performance forced Johnston to back out of the bet and he swapped the Broncos colours for a Warriors jumper.
While Metcalf’s form is sending Warriors fans into a frenzy on the field, Johnson has turned hype-man off it.
Metcalf and Johnson, the halves combination that no one saw coming in 2025, could steal the show again this week in Christchurch when the Warriors take on the Knights.

Good to know he’s not overly sensitive to cop serve with him saying Erin Clark buy of the season in his view after the game. Maybe Clark is a big on field influence with him coming through in the halves too?

Seems quiet & reserved by nature. He'll need to find his voice if he wants this team to respect him. He's our 7. And this is his team while he is the conductor of it

Why would you want him to change to something that doesn't come naturally to him.
He's doing great at the moment 👏

Imagine been promoted to a manager when there are more experienced employees around who can do better initially. Would probably take time to start barking orders, a couple of match winners will probably help with the confidence on top of repetition.

Is this still a 50 game and he will be fluent situation? 25-26 years old too so more mature than a 19-20 year old rookie

he has to do something. I'm worried about the organization and general play. Sparks of brilliance are holding peoples attention just enough currently
I would be more worried if your fanboy TMM was promoted as he is also a quiet on field type of guy .
Not knocking his ability just the reason to make the decision to change a pretty successful combination.
I have seen your dislike for Metcalf and can't understand why. Personally I prefer to support all of our guys.

I don't think it's fair to say "personally I prefer to support all of our guys". Criticism does not equal dislike, and I think it's fair to be critical of players. And to blindly be for all players could stop some good ones getting into positions where they could be great ones.

I'm big on Metcalf myself but that means I'm less into getting byod or TMM in at the moment. That does not mean I'm not supportive of them when/if they play.

You obviously haven't seen the criticism of Metcalf by Inruin and that's fine
TMM'S a good player also but not a good fit for the Warriors at this time.
I have never been fond of criticism of any of our guys and that will never change

Exactly this and it's a league forum where people are allowed their opinions, ideas and thoughts.

I think you will find though that it's more about the unhealthy infatuation with me rather than anything else, some people just can't take a hint.

I would have thought that someone saying Metcalf isn't a 7 is fairly blunt criticism myself but apparently thats support according to them. 🤣

We’re winning so he can stay

2/8 kicking is horrendous
The game shouldn’t have been that close nor should it have gone into overtime

His short ball to Leka which just wasn’t on because he literally drifted into him as Leka was running a straight line then passed it too late / on the line causing him to drop the ball. These are all learnings for the young jedi.. I still think if/when his stock rises he’ll be pulling the homesick card. Whether we like it or not, they all do, especially if it’s Manly, Roosters or one of the top clubs who come knocking with a good offer
Better get that premiership out of him then

It’s a pity we have Boyd and TMM behind the incumbents.

Would love to see a cameo /SOS call for SJ later in the season at home. It would kick up a huge amount of interest and I think he’s still got it.
