Pick Your Team Gold Coast Titans v NZ Warriors - [Round 7, 2026]

We’ve had this debate before

Metcalf is not a proven player

Different league to Barnett and those that have earned their stripes

How many first grade NRL games has Metcalf played in his career?????
Like for like, Katoa at the Dolphins. Would you keep him out in the same situation.
Our teams desperately needs x factor. I am looking forward to the big moments, finals etc. I want someone who owns the moment not someone who has a history of crumbling under pressure.

So same rule goes for everyone if they come back from injury and we lose? Barnett for example?
Should the Storm drop their spine because they are shit with them?
Yeah Tigers potentially in the same spot once Luai comes back. Jock Madden has been superb for them, just playing in his lane, plays a lot more direct and square than Luai and has been the key allowing Douhi to shine playing more 2nd receiver......I doubt their leave Luai out once fit tho.

Luai is overrated though. But similar situation as the club is all in on him. If either club holds their premier half in reserve grade without them doing anything wrong/playing poorly they will lose them.
Are we really willing to sign Biyd long term and let Metcalf go? Because honestly that is corner where we will back ourselves into.

Metcalf isn’t going anywhere

He’s signed to 2028 whether we like it or not

The big question is can we sign TB

At this current rate he’s going to get too many suitors for us to compete.

A bit of confidence with added experience is a beautiful thing. Just ask CHT. Boyd will be no different

Again Metcalf is not a proven player compared to Luai

Luai has rep honors (12 SOO, +20 for Samoa) 150 NRL games, four premierships. Of. Course he walks back into his spot

Metcalf has…..???

This whole debate is laughable 😝

Wow what is going on, fan question was CHT 6 what happens at 7, and the U17 coach was for the future, it should be Metcalf, Monty agrees about salary cap and SJ was like for higher ceiling Metcalf

While the screen was showing this 😂

Honestly like WTF

The definition of insanity is trying the same thing that don’t work repeatedly, what do you call it trying to repeatedly fix things that are working amazingly?

Are they just comforting Luke’s ego? I don’t know how Boyd or the team would feel watching this degrading, we just destroyed Melbourne for the first time in 11 years.

I was expecting them to start talking shit about tannah, and only talking up luke by what you said. But it was just them saying for now there is no reason to pick one and for our future we should put the one guy who is signed for next year into the seven. I don't think you could give a safer answer. But i'm glad the idea of putting anyone but CHT into that six role is no longer entertained.

I guess i don't know what the expectation here is? Did you want them to all say luke should stay in NSW cup until his contract is over or until boyd leaves the club? I don't think it's insanity. We were 2nd in round 11 with luke. And we're off to another (if not better) start with boyd. Both are great choices. And keeping the answer down to fitness seems to be right the safest choice (I.e even once 'fit' send him to nsw grade for a game or two to prove it). I don't think boyd would find it degrading unless he has asked for a contract extension and had it denied by the club. Otherwise he has got to understand there will be a preference for the player who is sticking around. I have the same thoughts around marata. In some cases i think he is a better middle than EIT off the bench. But 9 times out of 10, i want the guy who is going to be here next year to have that spot. And as usual the old guard puts club loyalty on a pedestal.

Lol who's debating

Im just pointing out the similarities where u have 2 teams that are firing atm with halves that probably weren't considered first choice at the start of the season but look a better fit for the synergy of their teams at this point in time....and then interested in how they handle or re-introduce (or maybe they dont) their injured play maker's....

Geez u like to get your knickers in a twist 😆

And for the record I always thought Metcalf skills more suited the modern day fullback since I first saw him debut from the Shatks....that opinion hasn't changed....even with his stellar season last year.

I expected 1 of them to say Tanah is doing great BUT blah blah and they vote 2:1 to Luke like how they always do on Sky panels, instead we got salary cap, ceiling and future 3:0 and 0 mention of Tanah’s contributions 😂

Wishful thinking on my part for expecting 1 single kind word from the panel after putting up 4:0 performances when he’s the dominant 7 I guess

I mean I kind of get it. They also never brought up RTS for his amazing job that game. And only focused on CHT, Vaimauga and Egan.

But it's already a very rushed show with a tiny amount of time given. And they had about 70 seconds to answer it.

This feels like splitting hairs. And not at all degrading the team to comfort one guys ego. In the same way focusing on those 3 players for the game does not degrade Ford, RTS, Boyd or DWZ.

You want to bring up player history but only when it suits your narrative. Boyd's very checkered past counts for nothing. You refuse to acknowledge it.

In a comp where multiple teams are screaming out for a halfback Boyd stayed on for another year as backup (at the time on resigning). Its the same shit as when TMM was playing 7 and we were winning. Noone wanted SJ back and it was all never change a winning team blah blah blah. I called that out then and I am doing it again.

The game is so different in 2026 with huge unstoppable momentum swings and insanely fast ruck. Safe to say that will get pulled back and teams defence wil improve as the year goes on. Scoring tries is a whole different ball game in the last 10 rounds compared to the first.

Its a sound argument, you just can't see it yet. Noone is saying Boyd is playing average. He is doing very well. My arguement is why the hell are we putting a line through Metcalf so quickly. We virtually haven't seen him play this year. If we wait till we go to shit to make changes you bring him into a losing side and bang, set up to fail.

Will Metcalf be fit and available come finals?

Legitimate question because history says he never finishes a season.

He’s 27 with only 43 NRL games played.

I do enjoy your argument and tend to agree but actually believe Metcalf will firstly have to get his "legs under him" and given the form of Boyd and CHT currently that will need to be in the NSW Cup team.

Secondly I also believe the coaching staff should explore playing Metcalf at fullback, Luke has the x factor to add to our team but not at the expense of a winning performing halves combination.
We know Luke can cover the halves if an injury strikes, we know he has plenty of experience playing fullback in the cup but he still has to outperform the incumbents..

I agree and after seeing the 2 games he needs confidence in that knee. I don't mind a couple of NSW cup games. Was also wondering about the fullback option. Would never happen though

Right side strong side; left side speed side surely. Ali and tall timber on the right fed by primary half and right side fullback sweep. Left side short side raids, kick chase and speed off the mark.
Cces will be the man to know, I just thought a majority of his starts have been on the right? Was a gun in the kick chase in 2023 down the right with DWZ

I'm erring on the side of caution - why change a winning team, any returning from long-term injury players (regardless of pay packet or 'superstar' status or 'looking out for the future') get a week or two in Reserve Grade to test the wonky limbs/joints out, and if all good then come in on first grade extended bench then make the call from there.

When you can afford to slowly bring a player back when the team is playing well, then slowly it is.
