watching back the game on watchnrl on my plane back home to the US. Fox sports did really send their commentary B team for our game (Ennis and the other broadcaster I have never heard of). It's a shame really given that our match was objectively game of the round form-wise. AJ stuff aside, Raiders and us were the two of the most impressive teams in rd 1. It deserved greater attention than it otherwise received.

Pretty sure Vossy is sick.

Sounded terrible last weekend. There is no commentary b team lol.

Let's be clear, there's been no clutch required across these two games.

I'm not really seeing anything different from him. He is exactly what he's always been skill wise, a competent 1st grade halfback. That's why he kills reserve grade.

The difference to me is the platform we are laying. A competent halfback behind a dominant forward pack should always be able to play well, which he is.

Take the point on confidence though, he does look to have a spring in his step.
tbf, that's all we need him to be. Our version of Jack Cogger for the Panthers. We'll have Mets to do all the flashy stuff. Need the other half to do all the one percenters which he can do.

There's more hype around a QLD cup match than the Warriors. I refuse to listen or watch the aussie media. The only mention we'll get this week will be Cameron Geroge giving it to the Raiders & how "unprofessional" it is blah blah blah.
My son who watches games and loves the Warriors but not like us - he is too busy to follow off field said "who is that fat idiot?"

We burst out laughing when I told him - if you didn't know it was the Warriors Ceo ole Cam looked like he was having some kind of spasm with his 'Shower head arm' Mana wave mutation, or was he waving off the Raiders to Nah nah nah nah hey hey hey?

Then my son said is that Alpha? so we had another laugh when I said nah he looks like a real idiot with a too old Mohawk look "oh but those two are really smart guys Dad, look at what the Warriors look like now".

We were really good. But Raiders were also very poor. Trying not to get too excited so would like another week to see how we go.

Tapine's post match mentioned "we struggled with the new rules" - does anyone know what he meant by this?

Yep fascinating when Mets is back.

I'm firmly in the Mets 6 camp. Great way to bring him back in
I can actually see Mets/TB combo working with CHT going to utility bench impact with his stinging defense. They complement each other naturally: Mets has the X factor, Boyd has the better general kicking game and can implement systems attack efficiently as we've see the last 2 weeks. CHT can go to bench impact vs Healey. The only issue I see here is that Mets clearly wants to be the 7 and run the team.

As of last year Metcalf had the better kicking game, but these 4 games tanah has had including trials he currently has the better kicking game. I’ve never seen such a drastic improvement in a player.
It is only 2 games tho, but hes still got a few weeks to keep this form up
Mate he was kicking like this last year all season in NSW cup, the issue was that things were slightly off in his fg appearances (typical case of talented young player gets the Career yips and nothing comes off or is largely inconsistent on the big stage despite being excellent with this core skill).

Typically players like Boyd either die on the vine (the NRL is full of them - almost stars that had a confidence stall under probably the wrong coaches in the wrong environment) or players like Boyd become over coached journey men who are used as back ups and told don't try anything funky coz you just don't have it in your game and it's gonna cost us.

And then there is a third outcome for players like Boyd, after being a school drop out at more than one school, they find that one teacher that believes in them, they start to find their self belief and fans like you say "I never saw that coming".

Tannah was kicking better in NSW cup than both our halves in NRL last year, this is not new or a case of lets see if he keeps it up, this is merely a case of Boyd transferring his abilities onto the stage where he was having panic attacks.

When that happens, if we and him are lucky, you have a player that is busting to show what they can do (he has years of frustration to unleash on the NRL).

It is funny but for all the dreaming in the recruitment thread about signings, right now the hottest cheapest player option in the NRL is sitting at Mt Smart.

With Metcalf's leg issues and TMM's aging - we would be stupid not to pivot on Boyd and lock down his ability to unlock the Warriors attack with his kicking and playing deep into the opposition line.

Metcalf can play six, think about it, we would have instantly the best unexpected halves pairing in the NRL and those two could be anything working together.

I honestly don't know what to do. I think people massively undervalue CHT, but on TB's current form... Let's remember that Metcalfe was not at all the finished product when he got injured. But he has massive x factor and speed. I do think we can afford to and probably should have Metcalfe ease back in with at least one cup game if we're still playing like this and winning when he is declared fit.

I disagree entirely.

Raiders had nearly 80% completion in the rain (we were better with 86%).
They had significantly faster play the ball, more run meters made per set, more line breaks, far more offloads (13 to 2!), and a higher tackle effenciency.

In that first half they looked like they'd run riot, with a lot of their backs looking really dangerous.

And then we fucking smashed them. They were really good tonight. We were just far, far better.

What?!?

It's called shithousery.

Get smashed, get the shit taken out of you.

They came here last year, bullied and beat us and gave it to us after.

"All's fair in love and war"

I'm not disagreeing.

I'm just saying it will become pretty lame if we make it a regular feature.

They were douchey, we got our revenge. Let it lay and move on, I say.

Why does CHT have to miss out if the most logical (it is staring all of us in the face 7. Boyd 6. Metcalf) thing happens?

Seems a lot of folk are kicking and screaming with angst when all they have to do is put CHT in at 14 instead of young Healy - that would mean that losing a half in the game like last night would be no issue for the Warriors and CHT can spell Egan no worries.

CHT is a great human being, I really admire him, but if the ruthless clubs in the NRL had this conundrum they would be fkn delighted...the Storm in this situation would just drop CHT cold and carry on like nothing happened - or more likely they would bench him - or dump 50/50 tackler Ali back to reserve grade and do a rejig to fit CHT into the Centers and Bellamy wouldn't lose a wink of sleep.

Look we might get there, but on form Metcalfe comes in for neither Boyd or CHT on form. Can we not pretend CHT didn't have a blinder last week? Two tries, silky ball to Capewell, defending like a champ as always.

And they came over early and were expecting a dirty game, because that is how Sticky tells them to unsettle the Warriors youth, put filth in and diddle the ruck.

They tried everything, and to their credit they tried hard to play the arm wrestle and win a slug fest in the wet, but that was CHECKMATE because they were playing our game - Webster ball, and no one does it better than an angry Warriors side on home turf.

Webby out coached Sticky, the boys earned the right to shift the ball, Tannah wanted it bad, the team followed his lead, Fish put shots on, Leka and Laban chased everything like terriers off the ball (this is where Ali barely deserves a spot in this team - last night he showed very good signs that he might be willing). The brown Tanner and Dimitric came on and we got to see how we have one of the best defensive forward packs (definitely most mobile) in the NRL. Just wait till Barnett runs out there Jesus Mary and Joseph.

Wade was wayde too good, the unsung hero of our forward pack.

And of course the forward that destroyed the Raiders single handed was the White brick shaped head Aussie maniac ole Munter Ford Le Machine....
