Current Affairs 2026 Iran War

Frank , In your opinion what affect will his death have in the immediate future please
Seems he was an unpopular dictator in a country where the population was more progressive. So unlike Iraqi, Libya, Syria.

Civil war hasn’t erupted in Venezuela so it seems it’s not always going to end up worse.

So much propaganda around Iran including from the Iranians themselves, it’s hard to know what’s really going.

The Venezuelan government was left largely in place so this is different because officials go far deeper in Iran and if they want a complete regime change there’s a view it can’t be achieved without boots on the ground. Khamenei gone is a start but the regime largely still stands

Not true in several regards. US claimed to killed 40 IRCG top level personnel. This is a tiny fraction of the administration required to run a country. In Iraq they dissolved the entire ruling government, meaning 1000s of soldiers were unemployed leading to militias.

Whoever is suggesting regime change cant be effected with boots on the ground is wrong. Seizing and holding territory is essential with a hostile population or large scale ground invasion. In this case all you need is a significantly motivated population.

I mean the Berlin Wall fell without boots on the ground didn’t it?

I just hope iran doesn't go into chaos and NZ has to take more refugees than our quota.
My experience of Persians is that they are amazing people, very warm, friendly, highly educated and enjoy a good laugh. They are known the world over for blending into western culture very well and are respected for being highly motivated professional people. I have the opposite view. If We get the opportunity to accept often times Doctors, Nurses, Educators, Engineers.
I think people need to learn their history, Persians taught the civilized world how to accept different religions, cultures, races of people (admittedly while conquering them but are you worried about that aspect? I assume not).
The Persian people are the Ancestors of a lot of the ideas you call European including influences in what you think of as human rights, Morality and ethics, the idea of good vs Evil and one God (you might not thank them for that). Their language is Indo European.

I could go on and on...but yeah they as a people have been an important bridge between the middle east and Europe in terms of blending the two worlds....something that we should all admire.

Shame about the Republic bastards then eh.

One bug bear people have about immigrants sticking to themselves is not part Persian culture, many prefer to fully integrate and make new social groups when they emigrate.

100% agree, I work at a Islamic school here in Sydney where the staff and students who are mostly Persian have made this guy feel nothing more than welcome.

Very unfortunate I can’t find it as it was on this morning but international relations professor at Otago university Robert Patman was a good listen on q and a. I can’t see the population hugely motivated to see a puppet government in place, especially powers that just blew up a school killing over 80. Many layers to this
