It's a pity that there's no desire on either side to let there be a fair, monitored referendum in the Donbass and let the people decide their fate.... part of Russia, part of the Ukraine or an independent country. And give free citizenship to those on the losing side within the country they decided to vote for if they choose to move there.

Ukraine won't give it up.
Russia won't either.
Difference between a Ukrainian and a Russian is the same as a south v North islander imo.

Do you think the Ukrainians will agree to give up the gas and oil fields and critical minerals that Putin has taken Sup?

All I know is they have been underestimated from the beginning and while Putin reigns the War will never really be over for Ukraine.

Ukraine are the European front basically by default eh. They have become the EU's proxy war and shield.

So saying, I don't think they will give up anything. When peace comes, expect a cold war in Ukraine and an escalation of their weapons development (the drone wars are insane now, Ukraine leads the world in innovation in that sphere, the Europeans are visiting Ukraine often and asking their advice about defence of their own borders).

With Putin gone who knows, a future leader of Russia may see the captured territories as not worth the grief to sustain.
