Pretty decent hit out, -1 for 3/4 of the game…..only a couple of regular starters, our depth looks promising, we weren’t slaughtered. Montoya looked a lot more confident with RTS inside him. Were gonna have an excellent season hands down.
Our young forwards truely have a world of potential. Laban, Halasima, TSS. Some real leg drive there. A real shame we didnt get to see much of Zyon Maiu’u.
I’ll cut him some slack with him being out of the game for a bit, but was surprised to see so many think he would edge Metcalf for a spot in first grade.

I recall seeing people quote Webster saying RTS needs work or still has a lot of work to do learning centre. Also a few habits to remove. That is good to read as it means we have high standards.
Today it kind of looked like. He may still need work but the work on the field is still pretty good while he is learning.
May need to work on his setting up of his winger. Looks like we may see a lot of dummies as it is safe and he runs instead or looks back in field.
Was a weird stat early on when he had done 4 runs and was the leading metre gainer. Even not wanting him to be a work horse he ends up high on the stats.
Solid performance for the boys...all the boys with NRL experience went well. RTS had a good return and looks comfortable at centre. Think the fact that Jacko Ford played most of the game says he may not see much NRL time this year. Metcalfe was good in patches. Ali is a beast on attack and will end up taking the right centre spot at sometime this year. Our backline is absolutely stacked for the first time since the early 2000s. Bunty and Ale were solid, and some of these young forwards like Halasima and Tuponuia, Tss and Laban will push for spots later in the year. Thought the Zyon Maiu’u send off was the right call, unfortunate as the tiger was propelled into him beacuse of the force of the Going tackle, but it was shoulder direct to head. Seriouslt think both out teams are going to be top tier this year.
Yeah I hope Laban gets some time in FG ... I'd have him over Jazz every day of the week..actually I like many of these new up incoming forwards over JAZZ
I also thought Metcalf had a really good game. The management from him was a bit better than last year. Wish he would take the line at full tilt more. That tackle he made when he took the fullback over the line was clever as!
The young guys were impressive but like everyone else is saying Jacob Laban was most impressive and that young centre Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Liked the look of Setu Tu. Strong bugger, Good leg drive. And apart from that missed tackle at the start of the game that lead to a try. His one on one tackles were awesome.
Metcalf is not a 7, he had a couple of good plays but lacks the most important parts - timing, decision making and a kicking game. Though Hanson looked better.
Anyone else think Ali could be a Smokey to start at centre this year, after another solid shift? Will be interesting to see how Rocco and Adam go next week…
