2000 Auckland Warriors Home Jersey​

2000 saw Puma become the Warriors new official supplier and what they rolled out was this monstrosity. They were under some serious time constraints having only signed a couple months before the 2000 season so to be able to get something done in a process that usually takes 9 months was admirable.

The players jerseys all had no permanent sleeve sponsors like the retail versions and instead had a much larger Barter Card badge sewn on. Any 2000 players jerseys will either have the badge or have a blank sleeve.

This jersey was worn for most of the season except where it clashed with the home team. There is very little information about this jersey as the club stopped publishing magazines in 2000 but I do believe this was both a home/away jersey with the red one being an alternate but more research needs to be done to prove this.

Only other variation I know of are made by Classic but strangely enough it has a 1998 NRL patch. This is the last known official 3rd party variation made by another supplier apart from the NRL labelled clean skins*.

*clean skins are jerseys produced by a contractor on behalf of the NRL and have no sponsors logos on them. They are usually much cheaper than official jerseys...

2000 Auckland Warriors Away Jersey

I believe this jersey was actually an alternate instead of an away jersey but need more concrete evidence to confirm. This jersey was only worn 4 or 5 times during the season with 3 of those occasions being preseason trials.

One such game was against the Dragons at Ericsson Stadium when the Dragons showed up with their usual red V jerseys forcing the Warriors to abandon their home jersey because of the obvious colour clash. The Dragons were fined by the NRL and to date this is the last time a team has been fined over a uniform infringement.

Players jerseys would again have the oversized Barter Card patch on their sleeves except for the trial games were they had the usual replica sleeve sponsor...

Another new addition was sleeve sponsor Lion Red starting a partnership that lasted over 14 seasons.

Replica jerseys were widely available to the public and there are no official variations of this jersey.

The 2000 home jersey was turned into an away jersey in 2001 along with a new Telstra Premiership patch above the NRL logo and new sleeve sponsor Lion Red.

These jerseys with the new additional patches were never sold to the public and only made for on field use. The Lion Red patches were all sewn straight over the Barter Card sublimated logo suggesting that the away jerseys from this year were simply repurposed retail jerseys. Any player jerseys found will most likely be an updated 2002 away with the huge NRL patch removed...

2002 NZ Warriors Home Jersey

The iconic 2002 home jersey that marked a season where the Warriors won the Minor Premiership and made the Grand Final wearing it.

Pretty much the 2001 home jersey with a few tweaks including the removal of the white panel on the back of the jersey and the new black and silver Warriors logo. Gone was the green that symbolized the original major sponsor and it would remain that way bar the odd anniversary jersey and its final return in 2018.

As stated above this jersey was worn during the clubs Grand Final loss to the Sydney Roosters.

The 2001-2002 jersey has been made as a retro heritage jersey three times in 2013, 2016 and 2022...

2002 NZ Warriors Mt Albert Jersey

Worn as a one off jersey in a trial against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Carlaw Park on 24 February 2002. The jersey was made in honour of the Mt Albert Lions league club playing the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Carlaw Park 33 years earlier in 1968. With both the Lions and Rabbitohs having won their respective competitions the game was touted as an Australasian club championship. Souths would go on to win the game 27-13 after the Lions led 8-7 at halftime.

These jerseys were used as training jerseys and given away to staff when they were no longer wanted. Some were also given to Mt Albert League club and members of the original 1968 team. Mt Albert had Ivan Cleary No. 1 jersey framed and hanging in their club rooms but a visit in 2022 showed it was no longer there.

There is no knowing exactly how many were ever made with very limited unused jerseys sold to the public at stores like Champions on Queens St, Auckland...

The blue version was mostly a player issued jersey but a few were sold as surplus at the Puma outlet store.

Worn to at least the 2004 season including 2002 where players names were added to the back of jerseys.
