1993 Auckland Warriors Home Jersey

In March 1993 the official Auckland Warriors jersey was shown for the first time to the public at a lavish launch attended by New South Wales Rugby League General Manager John Quayle, former Australian Kangaroos captain Wally Lewis, former New Zealand Kiwis captain Fred Ah Koi and media from all major networks and publications.

The original logo was designed by Francis Allan, of Colenso while the colours of blue and white represented Auckland Rugby Leagues traditional colours while the red and green represented major sponsor DB Bitter.

Canterbury of New Zealand (CCC)

The official supplier jersey was produced in limited numbers by Canterbury of New Zealand (CCC). It was made of 100% cotton and as with 1993 CCC produced jerseys for other clubs like the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Newcastle Knights the embroidered company logo was located above the NSWRL badge. The placing of the CCC logo is the main difference between the 1993 and 1994 versions of the Auckland Warriors jerseys. Others include the 1994 containing polyester and some variations having sleeve sponsors.

Official Variations

Peerless

Im a bit doubtful about the Peerless version being an authentic 1993 produced jersey. It is exactly the same as the 1994 jersey bar the back of one of the tabs reading 1993. My guess is they were simply reused labels from the year before but that is all conjecture.

Players Jerseys

As far as I know the only versions available were given to club staff, sponsors, celebrities and players doing promo work and the Auckland Warriors Colts team that toured Australia. This team, coached by John Ackland, played against Penrith, Parramatta and Central Coast and won all three games. That side was largely made up of 16 and 17 year olds.

The Auckland Warriors Scholarship Development squad was the very first team to ever wear the jersey in March 19 1993 against the Northland U19 team belting them 54-0. The game served as a curtain raiser to the Round 2 clash between the Brisbane Broncos and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Carlaw Park which was sponsored by the Warriors.

1994 Auckland Warriors Home Jersey

The Warriors were originally meant to start playing in the 1994 NSWRL competition but due to the other three clubs (North Queensland Cowboys, South Queensland Crushers and Perth Reds) not being prepared all four clubs were delayed until the following season.

The 1994 jersey would be the first Auckland Warriors jersey offered to the public for general sale through retail stores and mail orders.

Canterbury of NZ (CCC)

CCC would once again be the official suppliers to the club. This seasons jersey would differ from the previous season with the CCC logo now located under the NSWRL badge and being made out of 100% polyester.

Ansett sleeve sponsor logos were also added as a text box with white background. Not all 1994 CCC jerseys had a sleeve sponsor but this sponsorless variation is far less common. Speaking of sleeves this jersey featured a massive 3/4 sleeve that reached a grown mans mid forearm.

Players Jerseys

As far as I am aware there were no games played wearing the Auckland Warriors jersey. All contracted players were playing for their NSWRL or Super League teams while New Zealand based players were playing in the Lion Red Cup with the Auckland Warriors development players playing for the CRC Auckland City Vulcans. The only known examples of players wearing this jersey were standard replicas worn during promotions or signing news.

Official Variations

During this era the NSWRL owned all team logos, colours and names and they also kept all revenue from merchandising sales. As well as issuing a premium licence for official suppliers of the on field gear they also issued licences to any third party supplier who paid for the right to produce goods bearing the NSWRL intellectual property. As a result clubs could have any number of manufacturers producing jerseys and with the Auckland Warriors hype generating a massive amount of sales there was no shortage of companies wanting to hop on the Warriors gravy train and creating their own jerseys that were basically the CCC designed jersey with a different makers logo. This would be evident with the Warriors 1995 jersey.

Peerless

The Peerless jersey was really unusual in that the chevons (V shaped stripes) were made of individual pieces of fabrics sewn on top of each other. This jersey was 100% cotton. The logo was also a heat transfer. The Peerless 1994 variation is not very common and are mostly found in small sizes. Large sizes are rare.

Lenco

​

Probably the most common variation sold was the Lenco produced jersey that featured the companys text logo above the NSWRL badge. Made from polyester it featured the company text logo on the red band of both sleeves.

Lenco Diamond

​

For some reason Lenco also produced a jersey that featured their full diamond logo above the NSWRL badge. Apart from that its like the other variation in every other way including the polyester fabric and sleeve sponsor.

The OG. The jersey that birthed a club. This was the jersey the players during their inaugural game against the Brisbane Broncos at Ericsson Stadium on March 10th 1995.

The CCC jersey would be the same as the previous years except for the NSWRL badge being replaced by the newly formed Australian Rugby League (ARL) badge.

Yeah, It's pretty crazy how much there going for these days. Back in the non glory days when I bought this, you wouldn't pay more than 30-50$ for a classic jersey like that.

'94 CCC Size L Jersey. Excellent condition, no sleeve sponsor.
'93 - '96 Size M Jacket. Unsure of the year, but have seen a few of these at Mt. Smart over the years. The most reluctant sale from this list.
'93 - '96 Scarfs. Have 2 of these, never seen another like it.
'11 Size S Jersey. All black jersey with white sponsors. Bought this as an anniversary gift for my other half when I used to drag her along to Mt Smart.
'15 Size L Auckland Nines Jersey. Paua shell design 20 year anniversary.
