Looks like republicans are keen to see id at elections. Could have some implications with only 51% of Americans having a passport and could present issues for married women with their birth certificate varying from married name among concerns

Majority of people in the US want voter ID. Its actually one of the least contentious issues they have looked at, certainly as far as public support. Many states already require some form of ID from what I understand. If women are married, their marriage certificate can be used, along with other forms of ID.

This is an article on some of the potential obstacles. Seems odd to be so definitive that it will go through with or without congresses support

Because most of those are made up. The argument that black people and married women will struggle to provide ID, is so patronising. Ami Horowitz did a great piece on this like a decade ago.

Good on you with the marginalised front and foremost again but there’s many concerns highlighted in these articles along with the one I posted before with things like student id’s invalid or tribal id’s only excepted with an expiration date which many don’t according to one of these articles. There are very real concerns that why wouldn’t you abide by congress’s ruling rather than announce it will be done either way?

There’s overwhelming support from citizens. The only complaints are from special interests groups. Student and tribal ID shouldn’t be valid for things like driving, guns and voting.

Also on your article..

You have a driver’s license for driving and a gun license for owning a gun but no such thing as a voting license so already they are cherry-picking over what’s acceptable by not accepting student id’s and tribal id’s without an expiry date-which is an odd requirement in itself, they are photo id’s as is what’s being asked though. Have to see whether congress passes it but I can’t see why the view of it’ll go through either way exists

Because you can’t have IDs issued by quangos with no oversight. Not all education institutions are equal. Neither are all tribal administrations.

Non expiry date IDs got phased out globally due to the exploitation of them.

There are obvious concerns that I’ve posted a few articles of the many existing and there’s nothing rational in not all education institutions and tribal administrations being equal as photo identification is what’s necessary and these are forms that prove the person is who they say they are. Non expiry date id’s for tribal identification phased out seems an odd request being that they will only accept tribal id’s with an expiry date

It’s not odd at all. Non expiration date IDs are super vulnerable to being used in identity theft. If IDs have expiration dates, then they have to be renewed. Dead people can’t renew IDs, so you prevent fraudulent use with one easy trick.

It’s why NZ driver’s licenses, went from paper lifetime, to photo with expiration.

It should be fairly basic to look at the identification of the person and verify they are who they say they are and check their details without the necessity of needing to update their identification on that technicality of the expiration date. Comes under the cost side of things like why a big portion don’t have a passport over there. Certainly nothing to show congresses findings shouldn’t be abided by

Ive already explained why. If you don't like the answer, not sure if there's much left to discuss on this topic.

You should write to the NZ govt and say they should go back to lifetime non expiration IDs cos its "fairly basic to look at the identification of the person and verify they are who they say they are and check their details without the necessity of needing to update their identification"

Come on bro...

The integrity of elections should be preserved, but access shouldn't be at a cost. Id support reduced cost state / national ID (drivers / passport) over access with dodgy IDs
How can you have the nerve to talk about the integrity of elections when the guy you don’t seem to have the mental fortitude to acknowledge says he won’t accept congresses ruling around the bill, still won’t acknowledge he lost the 2020 election with every court saying he did in fact lose it. This bill only went through by 5 votes so not even an overwhelming majority in the house and just crept over the line. I’ve posted numerous articles on the matter to which nothing you’ve contributed has addressed those concerns by posting a fox roving reporter creating a pathetic angle. This is really what I’ve been driving at, why not accept congresses ruling if it doesn’t pass?

Are you having a stroke? The only person hyperventilating about congress is you. I haven't addressed it, because I'm not even talking about that, as its a whole other subject.

ID to Vote is a pretty easy exercise in philosophical debate that can be had as an abstract (not by everybody apparently)

The only one having a stroke is you pulling your pecker. Every post I’ve mentioned the congress part and you’ve dodged it every time until I asked the question specifically. You’ve really provided nothing towards the debate other than you like it so it’s ok without addressing the concerns in the 3 articles I’ve posted among the many available as to why there are concerns. 218-213 as far as the votes for the bill goes isn’t an indication there’s an overwhelming view it’s needed

I can’t decipher a coherent point about congress anywhere in these text walls. Grammar was invented for a reason.

As for concerns, I’ve addressed that too. It’s fake. Social justice groups earning their donations. 83% support amongst actual people that vote.

Among the most-supported proposals:

  • Requiring electronic voting machines to print a paper backup of a voter’s ballot (84% in favor)
  • Requiring all voters to show government-issued photo identification (83%)
  • Making early, in-person voting available for at least two weeks prior to the election (80%)
  • Making Election Day a federal holiday (74%)

What a surprise. The right backs early voting.
