All good, bro. Wellll, I feel like Japan doesn’t really exist on the left-right spectrum as we understand it. Takaichi wants to revise the constitution on one hand, which is a very right wing thing to want to do, but has also thrown a lot of yen into the public healthcare system and plans to suspend the consumption tax, which are very much not right-wing things.
She seems to be all things to all people at the moment, which probably isn’t sustainable? She strikes a good balance between corporate-facing policies and public-facing policies, but has a dodgy populist side to her as well. The LDP are kind of smart in that they can ride her popularity while it exists while also having a younger, more liberal PM in waiting as well (Koizumi).
These are just jumbled thoughts. The economy is the bottom line, though. If real wages continue to stagnate here then watch her popularity plummet.
