Politics ðŸ¤¡ Donald Trump

It does when other countries have gun control and no school shootings.

And it's crazy & callous to say that after a school shooting.
So, they certainly have gun violence. If you remove inner city black youth, the US has a lower rate of gun violence than some European cities.

Harming children isn’t unique to the US. Attacks in the UK frequently target children.

I think we're still quite far off what's happening in the states but definitely not the utopian country we once thought we were.

If theres any political violence here I could see if coming from the far left or far right deeply invested in international culture war topics. The influence of that is quite insidious... not naming names.
I'm not so sure we are that far off to be honest but i agree with the rest of your post.

I was going to add to my previous post that we do have a rather large majority of people in the country that are relatively centerist - either slightly left or slightly right - which is keeping us on a level at the moment. But we are heading the way of partisan politics, much like other areas of the world, and the more the center are divided further to the left and right the worse we will be. It's a change that is gathering momentum and it has done so fairly rapidly elsewhere. We shouldn't be surprised to see it happening here and likely in the next 6 - 10 years I would think if not sooner.

Frank you live in Australia.
It's not healthy to fan boy this hard over this side of American politics.
Go for a walk.
And yet the parallels are everywhere.

After 150 years of being sold, machetes are now banned in Victoria. Strange that all of a sudden these machetes decided to start attacking innocent people.

In completely unrelated news, Sudanese kids make up 3% of the population, but represent 50% of the kids in custody.

Do you want to ban seat belts, that would be analogous to a country full of assault weapons if countries were cars.
I’m against guns.

But I’m not going to force my opinions and judge another country which has completely different dynamics and underlying ideology.

Some countries might judge us like we judge the Americans because we eat meat or even pork - living animals. Or allow abortions. Or cut down trees (murderers!)

If you believe Charlie deserves to be murdered for his views, then we’re all fair game to the rabid vegetarians!

Sounds like some nice NSN propaganda right there? Pretty much verbatim.

Fair point, it's none of our business I guess. These culture warriors have a lot of fans down here though.

The biggest issue for America is that the cat is out of the bag now. The horse has bolted. Even if you got a vast majority of support across the country, there are so many guns already in circulation and to many borders to guard against them being imported illegally that I doubt it would make a difference.

That's why I am glad our laws are tight and we are isolated geographically. Once you loosen things like gun laws here, it takes so long to remove them again.

But I thought it was the machetes fault? Because it’s the guns that are the problem in the US right?
If gun laws were more relaxed there in Victoria would we be talking about a bigger problem rather than machettes? If gun laws were tighter in the US would we have less overall murders but a larger number of knife related ones?

And they have a completely different mindset. They have been under threat of war with half the world since forever.

It’s desirable for them militarily if the public is heavily armed as a defensive strategy.

Totally different situation to us living in peaceful NZ. And I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but it’s ignorant to project our world view on others so high and mightily.

It’s not only our world view, but a viewed shared by many Americans too. According to this 61% of Americans support stricter measures around guns, the problem is they have a very powerful lobbying group behind them
