Over in New York, the United Nations General Assembly has been meeting all morning on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It has just adopted one resolution - drafted by the EU and the UK - to mark the anniversary, which reaffirms the UN's "commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine".

A resolution, when passed, is used to formally express the opinion or will of the international organisation.

The resolution needed the support of two-thirds of those voting to pass - 93 states voted in favour, 18 against and 65 abstained.

The US opposed the resolution - instead filing its own, which makes no reference to backing Ukraine's territorial integrity, and refers to Russia's invasion as a "conflict”


So America are now voting in the UN alongsidethe rogues gallery of Russia , North Korea and Belarus. All because Trump is compromised

For balance, the US drafted and voted for a resolution at the UN Security Council which mourning the loss of life and called for an end to the conflict.

The Security Council passed the resolution, but two key US allies, the UK and France voted against it.

So to balance the clearly anti US rhetoric, the war mongering UK and France just want the war to go on and won’t compromise to end it while the US is compromising and taking a no blame angle as it seeks to actually end the war.

… but the full details and the ‘why’ doesn’t seem to be what’s shown in the media who prefer the well worn anti anything Trump media angle.

Sorry but what a load of absolute nonsense. Why would European countries want a war in their backyard?

There are other ways of ending a war than allowing an aggressive autocrat everything they want , only for them to come back for more when they have regrouped and rearmed. Other East European countries would be at risk. To do this would be Hitler and the Sudetenland all over again

And America aren’t coming up with a no fault proposition. Trump is blaming Ukraine and claiming Zelenskyy is a dictator, neither of which is true. Trump is a draft dodging coward who is up to his neck in shit in Russia, the truth will eventually out-it usually does in countries with a free press

It's rather odd how defensive people are of Trump here - the guy is an amusing fuckwit. That's all I can muster.

Where did I defend Trump?

I was responding to a person who has contributed nothing to actual discussions of ideas and policies, instead calling people 'twats'.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Trump's personality either. However, politically, I agree with ideas. Not people.

There is a difference and lumping people into an entire idealogy, because they agree with one point, is shortsighted.

Well, your comment was hardly benign, and fits with a trolling pattern most readily found in platforms like X/Twitter, or any platform where right wingers congratulate themselves on how clever they are in their cesspit of disinformation and who knows what.

But that's the right for you. That's who they are. Along with the oligarchic fascism/authoritarianism on display in America.

Easy to see how I came up with my conclusion.

I originally posted that, taking the piss, as I thought the original comment was tongue-in-cheek. Regardless, it wasn't an insult, directed at the OP.

Also, my blood pressure went right down as soon as I uninstalled X/Twitter from my phone, highly recommend.
