It's somewhat amusing seeing politicians with no credibility (Hipkins and Davison) having a whinge about how the gravy train is over

It’s a decent budget. We can’t have a lolly scramble because the last two government dished it all out by borrowing against the next generation. NZ just has to suck it up and get back to basics. It’s like going on a diet
How come Pete and Elon don't go on a diet? Epstein me that.

It's definitely a safe, politically smart budget. Reining in wasteful department spending to protect health and education is great, but it's just another 'keeping the lights on' budget. Simply matching inflation for frontline services doesn't fix a stagnant economy and leaning heavily on regulatory reform to save us by 2050 is a slow burning fuse when there are immediate infrastructure and productivity crises right now.

I am surprised you are happy with it as there is no headroom for high value innovation leading to more long term stagnation and no wins for productivity. It's probably a smart election year budget but means nothing for the future of the country.
Pretty much agree it’s safe, boring and uninspiring but probably what we need right now.

It’s up to business hunkering down and getting better rather than the govt dragging us out of this mess.

Govt needs to cut barriers/ red tape and bureaucracy and get out of the way rather than trying to lead it with spending sprees.

I avoid the political thread like the plague usually, but this photo op sums up the tone deaf nature of the current coalition to me. Whatever side of the political spectrum you are, nothing screams "I don't know how to relate to the common man" more than showing us they are humble humans through a photo op at a bakery, but then ordering a $17 paua pie.

This coalition has failed at this throughout. The lamb day bbq was particularly grating at a time when people are finding it very difficult to buy meat. The way they have packaged their messages has been so ham-fisted at times.
