They see the gangs and misfits in society as being a decent voting block that they are always soft towards.

Fits with their anti police narrative.

Sell morals for votes.

That's just your opinion. What did they actually disagree with and why?

New social housing rent costs. Is this just taking from one set of poor people to give to another set of poor people?
Social support and housing services were blindsided and not even consulted.

Willis desperately walking back saying "social housing tenants effectively won the lotto"

No positive transformational policy, nothing fixed - Another example of shitting on the vulnerable and making peoples life materially worse.

Personally, I don’t like it. I know there’s not the funding avaialble but I’d rather they waited until there was and then left the social housing percentage at 25% while increase the accommodation supplement as funds allowed.

As for the money going to landlords, unless the tenant has arranged for the supplement to go directly to the landlord, the tenants aren’t legally obligated to let the landlord know they’re receiving it. A landlord would have to be pretty low, IMO, to raise the rent because they’re guessing that the tentants has received an extra boost…. and,, unfortunately, some scum lords will.

As for Willis and her β€œwinning Lotto” comment….. how Friggen out of touch with reality is she? The slightest bit off respect I still had for her has now completely gone!!!!!

This is a good idea. I know they earn less and then pay less but 30% of your income on rent is a lot of you don't earn much. Petrol is expensive enough already.

The bill was introduced word for word on my post.

The bill was to stop govt funding initiatives going to gangs and their associates.

All the parties voted for the bill and Greens, TPM voted against it.

Nothing more to say really, let the parliament votes speak for themselves.

I am generally a centre- right voter but both willis saying you have won the lottery and luxon saying he is wealthy and sorted is inappropriate so probably deciding between national or NZ first this election.
I lean towards NZ First based on policy.

Peter’s tends to spend the year up to election saying all the right things then come election night goes MIA for the next 2 years.

Despite being in govt on and off for most of my life and helped oversee us going backwards, the wily old fax still manages to blame it on everyone else!

You need to run for government to phase us out and into sustainable power sources or you’re all talk
Power generation is something we need to look at in this country. We already have warnings over winter that we hit limits.

I know one argument people make is charging EVs. I doubt everyone would be charging them all at the same time.

One thing no one mentions. Politicians want to move us to a knowledge-based economy. Where is this going to be stored? If it is in NZ this will need to be planned for. Data Centres generate a lot of power and need to run 24/7. Storage is one issue. Think of everything you store online or stream. It needs to be stored somewhere and multiple times to ensure it is available.

A.I is further adding to the problem. When you add equipment to a data centre, you need to log the power consumption. A rack in most data centres is 20-30kw. I was on an A.I course earlier in the week. The talk was how the GPU requirements are getting up to 120kw or higher. There was a figure of 1200 racks a month (the context for this wasn't great). That is a lot of power. Data Centres are limited for space. So naturally, more will need to be built.

There is a lot more to our modern world than people realise.
