Pointing out this morning again, as world leaders display their own brands of leadership in different countries - plans of action, reassurance, opening up public transport, ensuring there are contingencies in place and communicating these plans to their respective populace -

We. Have. Nothing.

Well, we have silence.

Where is the leadership? This war has gotten worse. The strait is not open. Nothing has been resolved regarding supply of fuels.

Key, Ardern, Bolger, Clark - all good leaders.

Instead we have.....what? Seymour - a hard right puppet of Atlas, Winston - going full blown cooker Trump, and Nicola Willis - who has broken the economy.

Turns out borrowing 14 billion for tax cuts and basing your economic strategy on fossil fuels isn't a great idea. It's a disastrous one.

Meanwhile, the actual prime minister is invisible.

Maybe this is part of a master plan and a cunning strategy. Maybe. If it is, I would predict it will only benefit a few in this country.

Right now though, it's the incompetent disaster it truly appears to be.

Worst. Government. Ever.

Secure and grow our food supply.

Renewables to the fore, focus on resilient power infrastructure.

Cheap public transport for all.

Move the manufacturing base where we can back to New Zealand.

All of that is a start.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today said New Zealand had 61.9 days of petrol available, 51.5 days of diesel and 50.1 days of jet fuel either in the country or on its way as of April 1.

β€œMovements remain within expectations and show normal patterns.”

Finance Minister Nicola Willis today said she was seeing β€œnormal flow of fuel” into the country.

She said fuel retailers continued to report no material issues with fuel shipments.

No crisis, expensive but the govts doing a good job monitoring and hopefully the price at the pump eases soon.

One remarkable and important event that has gone unremarked recently, and carries on with the further takeover of NZME advancing in the last few days, is the funding of a defamation case against TVNZ, by the same far right billionaire who is actively and aggressively taking over NZME.

This person is Jim Grenon, a Canadian billionaire, immigrating in 2012. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrist_(website)

He's highly conservative.

He funds the Centrist, a far right website that promotes "alternative" news, really just a vessel for conspiracies, far right and extreme conservative views, as well as the standard right wing disinformation such as climate skepticism. Very similar to Reality Check Radio and The Platform.

Through the suggestion of the TaxPayers Union, and looking to back Hobson's Pledge, he began a takeover of NZME. https://www.thepost.co.nz/politics/360629350/ad-sparked-jim-grenons-nzme-takeover

There is no doubt that NZME will go full far right if this happens, it's already pretty right wing as it is now, with it's Fox news like delivery

So we're actively having an admittedly heavily right leaning Herald completely losing it's independent journalism stance.

But the really chilling and interesting parts are the two defamation cases he's funded, one featuring Chantalle Baker, and the most recent one which he lost outright, against TVNZ with the Plaintiff being Julian Batchelor, a well known Hobson's Pledge activist

A quote from the Stuff article: β€œBillionaires should not be allowed to play with litigation behind a cloak of invisibility.” - quite

The tvnz case was completely thrown out.

Even Peter Williams, tv presenter turned conspiracy theorist and anti vaxxer called Batchelor a nutter after being asked to testify for him

"Peter Williams labelled Julian Batchelor β€˜a nutter’ after giving expert evidence on his behalf in defamation case"

"But after he gave evidence on Tuesday afternoon, he gestured to TVNZ’s current head of news, Phil O’Sullivan, and spoke to him outside court.

β€œHe told me he regretted being involved, described Mr Batchelor as a nutter and said Jim Grenon was paying for the whole thing,” O’Sullivan told the Auckland District Court under cross-examination on Wednesday.

When asked how he became involved in the proceeding, Williams told O’Sullivan that Grenon β€œrang him up and asked”."

So - malicious litigation to chill freedom of expression and shut down factual journalism. Takeover of New Zealand newsrooms and conversion to even further right destinations.

This is who the right is.
