Who looked after you while you were bludging off the public health system? Hypocrite
My cafe worker kept me alive with my base needs of food despite earning half the pay and not withholding their service when they negotiate pay.

My issue isn’t their skill or ability, it’s the default position to inconvienience the public and use us as Guinea pigs EVERY SINGLE TIME to blackmail above inflation pay increases.

I think teachers and nurses are critical workers and deserve to be paid exceptionally well, but do it without blackmail.

If you don't like paying for the convenience of paywave or credit cards, use an eftpos card. The only surcharges that should be banned are when paying by credit card is the only option

I don't get why people expect the government to wade into everything and fix it all. As consumers, we already have choice

If you like the service of a credit card, then by all means use it. But there is a price to pay

A bit of a waste of government time and energy when there are actual national problems to fix

You've identified the dead cat strategy correctly. It's a distraction from the abysmal performance of this government.

Distractions like the up to 80% increase of directors in government entities.
What an " Up yours " to the rest of us.

Or Brookes looking into the problem of children doing everyday chores around the farm which has been a healthy lifestyle learning experience for a million years.
So much for cutting red tape 😒

To be fair, this govt is making big and small changes everywhere at a rate it’s hard to keep up.

Generally though they are all with the underlying purposes they were elected on - fusing the economy, cost of living crisis, etc.

As a retailer that doesn’t charge paywave fees ourselves, this is a big issue people frequently check about (charges).

I see this just as a populist move that doesn’t solve the underlying issue but will make many people happy on the surface.

Surely prices will rise for card users and cash buyers.
Retailers aren't going to have 2 prices or how will it work
Wondering why it's not coming in for 12 months or so 🤔

Pure corruption

Making many changes and us not keeping up. Another tactic in play. Flooding the zone with shit. Straight out of the republican playbook

Wow - this is actually unexpected. Seems parental input on a child’s development can’t be superseded with just more money:

A rigorous experiment, in a more direct test, found that years of monthly payments did nothing to boost children’s wellbeing, a result that defied researchers’ predictions and could weaken the case for income guarantees.

After four years of payments, children whose parents received US$333 ($557) a month from the experiment fared no better than similar children without that help, the study found.

They were no more likely to develop language skills, avoid behavioural problems or developmental delays, demonstrate executive function, or exhibit brain activity associated with cognitive development.

“I was very surprised — we were all very surprised,” said Greg Duncan, an economist at the University of California, Irvine, and one of six researchers who led the study, called Baby’s First Years.

“The money did not make a difference.”

As we've always known. The recent healthy food showed the most healthy food measures dont work (taxes, subsides, bans) as people still continued the same poor decision making even if it required extra effort..

Dumb people make dumb decisions.

How would you describe the performance of the previous government?
so bad eh. I reckon the last government was the worst we've had in my lifetime

outright majority. Tried to do a bunch of stuff it didn't campaign on. Also shat the bed on implementing a tax regime it has trumpeted forever

Only achievement was borrowing $60bn from the next generation and managing to torch it all with nothing to show for it

But hey, apparently they saved our lives during COVID

... or did they?

And all that is why the left (and our media) can complain all they like about the current government, however the chances of Labour and their anarchist coalition partners getting a go next term are close to zero.
