Wasn’t it in his first ever test? Hopeless since then.

Whenever there pressure on he never stands up and performs.
Not sure but early in his career.
My point was he at least has made some runs while the other tailenders are just that.
In today's circumstances the only thing to do was to hit out.
I miss you hit type scenario.
No sense in trying to defend 😒

Many, many times in the past we have an established batter that just needs someone to hold up an end…

He wasn't actually batting with established batters though.
His highest score was 77 in Napier

How the hell does he have 557 first class wickets 😂😂 5ft nothing and bowling mid 120kms.
He reminds me a bit of Vernon Philander who was a similar build and bowled at around the same pace and ended up with an incredible test career average of 22.

But his test stint is likely to be short lived once Jansen, Rabada and Nortje return.

Southee with two wickets from 3 completed innings now. We need better from our captain and spearhead. His bowling is pretty sedate in these conditions.

I was disappointed not to see Santner selected. It looks a poor choice now too.

A few of us feared the embarrassment of a loss to a second-string SA side. This is a country that is producing world class players in opposition teams and has done for years. Plus they have political selection policies. It is a country that has always had cricketing depth, so if we are not on our game they will cause a shock.

Conway, Latham, Southee and Blundell are all out of form together. The perfect storm.

We have rested players as well and used the series to gain experience - could come back to bite us…

But we’re not out of it yet. It’s close after the first innings with SA only just ahead. Still anyones game and I expect our senior players to step up second innings.
No, not out of it by a long shot, you'd think that the experience would come to the fore. I support the exposure a few others are getting, it needs to happen.

A series win against South Africa is very elusive. Also we dropped Test Championship points against Bangladesh, so can't afford to lose games we should win.

I'm dreading what Australia are going to do to us in the upcoming tests....

At this rate its looking like South Africa will stay unbeaten in a series against us.

This Bedingham chap averages nearly 50 in first class cricket with 18 hundreds so it shouldn't come as a surprise that he's converted one of his starts into a big score.

Should be a thrilling last two days, looks like we might have a great opportunity to beat our current record highest run chase!
