Highest 2 Lowest looks really good. Denzel and Spike back together for the first time since Inside Man.

Will probably gross as much as an NRLW fixture given it doesn't have anyone flying around shooting lasers out their ass in a front of a green screen though.

Saw the 30th Anniversary of Heat at the movies last night, fuck that movie is still good!
Everything Mann did from Thief to Collateral holds up, hell of a run.

I feel like the scene with Pacino pulling De Niro over with the police helicopter stalking him prior to the famous diner scene is just as masterful. That Joy Division song is awesome.

Awesome you got to experience the film in a theater.

Never got to see it at the films, so was super excited to go. If only he chose to open an art studio New Zealand!

Crazy run even Miami Vice was underrated imo

Went to three movies in five days last week - Toxic Avenger remake on Wednesday, Weapons on Friday & Jaws 50th Anniversary on Sunday.

All fun in their different ways, all somewhat brutal at times, with a hint of unexpected hilarity at other times with a dashing of WTF sprinkled in 😅

Was great to catch Jaws on the big screen finally, after having seen it a million times but only via recorded-off-TV VHS (and probably not for at least 20 years).
"You're gonna need a bigger boat" got a big cheer from the audience, and some of Quints random one-liners and little ditties got some laughs too ("here's to swimming with bow-legged women" 😅).
Even a couple of the jumpscares still got me, with full knowledge that they were about to happen (dead dude inside boat and aforementioned bigger boat moment in particular).

Weapons I had managed to avoid any spoilers beyond talk of it being good, so was great to try unravel the mystery in my head as it went along. Started off as a really tense sometimes creepy thriller, then took a weird turn with some almost dark comedy moments. The reveal of what was going on was a bit random to be honest, but still enjoyed it, and there were some truly brutal moments that were just kind of uncomfortable to watch rather than being 'scary' (though some were also kind of hilarious in a ridiculous over the top kinda way hah).

And Toxic Avenger, well that was simply ridiculous, a decent homage to the original while doing it's own thing. 😅 Not sure I could recommend it unless you are really into cheesy terrible gorefests! The fact they got the likes of Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood and Kevin Bacon involved in what is basically a well produced indy schlock fest is impressive in itself hah!

Next movie on the cinema list is Naked Gun, I've heard that it somewhat does justice to the originals, in that it is still quite funny, so looking forward to catching that with one of my fellow cheesy-comedy-loving mates. Not sure when I last saw an actually funny comedy at the cinema!

Dunno how many times I have watched JAWS. I remember seeing it as a kid. An old guy died of fright in one of the earlier screenings at the local cinema (suspected heart attack).

My favorite film to this day, as a fisherman it is a fishermans movie for sure, a rip off Old man and the Sea and Moby dick, but they are droll by comparison.

Read the book by Peter Benchly as a ten year old, nice shock finding it had a raunchy sex trist in the novel (Brody's wife has a fling with RIchard Dreyfusses character Matt Hooper).

As for Robert Shaws Quint, that monologue he made up on the spot makes that film, also it is interesting that most Fishing boat Charter skippers in my years at sea are wanna be Quints....especially Kiwis, Alpha male wankers mostly.

Always thought Quint was a regular Cap Ahab

Jaws is a move I appreciate more as I get older.

When I was young it was the cool movie with the big shark. You liked the suspense and the people getting taken out while swimming.

As I have gotten older and watch it more often due to owning a copy. I love the build up with the idiotic mayor and councillors who have to have their big weekend as Chief Brody tries to deal with what is happening.

Then you get the quotes from Hooper and Shaw.

Also love how it turns into a road boat trip as the 3 main characters head out to sea and start bonding.
