I watched that doco on the Tohoku quake and Tsunami several times and still amazes me how many people survived considering the magnitude. Anecdotally waves of 40m were supposed to have been seen.
Did you know there was a wave coming when you were in Samoa?

Not sure but there was displeasure as they thought the warning which come from Hawaii was too slow. My ex’s father had friends out playing golf and the course is amongst cliff tops out to sea where the epicentre was and they said the sound was unworldly of the earth grinding against itself, being religious they said it sounded like a gods groaning. It happened so quickly and so close that that it’s no wonder Hawaii’s warning was slower than they hoped. Interestingly there was a sizeable earthquake in Samoa yesterday along with that of Japan. They often occur in similar times down here

I don't understand this stupid idea that people will adapt comes from.

We are not adapting to our current environment.

What's NZ tectonic activity? Most countries aren't static, I would have thought NZ was rising?

No idea. I just know that NZ as a whole is quiet low, so rising oceans really effect us. It doesn't need to encroach on urban areas. Ruining our farmlands would screw us royally.

It's a common trope from the right to help reinforce doing nothing about the effects that have been generated by their destructive policies that have brought us to where we are.

Dig into those promoting this as a course of action and it won't take too much to find they've been deniers and active fossil fuel policy supporters

Climate change is inevitable.
8 billion people will have to work together towards a common goal to have any real effect on slowing global warming.
That's going to need every country to work together for the greater good.
And here in Wellington we can't even decide if cycle lanes are a good thing for the environment . And whether or not we can afford to fix the poo plant that's currently pumping raw sewerage into Cook Strait

I don't like our odds for survival as a species

Fabulous thanks, I was just enquiring if you're working from home or the state or some council on my ticket, I sort of feel responsible for you younger guys and try to be supportive where I can

My waterfront property is rising by 9mm per year. At this rate, I won’t be water front anymore!
