Under the previous contract for the ferries that this government cancelled, costing hundreds of millions to New Zealand taxpayers, one ferry would have been here by now, and the other would be here later this year.

Instead:

The worst part of this decision for me is the cancelation of the ocean going tow enabled vessel to drag one of these big fuckers into safe harbor when eventually one falls to peices in the middle of the Strait during a winter storm
A new ferry will make a lot of sense if that was to happen πŸ€”

Madness eh

@Rick O’Shay @wizard of Tauranga

You both need to refine your nero fiddling.

Here's someone who knows what they're talking about.

She knows the same as the rest of us, SFA about where this is going. There are no experts. You can hypthesise all you like but it's an unknown, not dissimilar to Covid.

I hope you've started walking to work?

Question

You have a lot more faith in Shane Jones than I do Rick
If he told me it was raining I would go outside and have a look
Trust Nicola Willis more than him for sure.

Bottom line JN is there is no surety of supply. You don't need a PhD to figure that out and those who were smart enough when the shit first hit the fan will have taken provisions to prepare for rationing which will happen in my opinion, if this goes on much longer.

The issue for us is and always was Diesel.

Not sure how many remember the last fuel shock with carless days (which was easily rorted) and eventually petrol stations closing at lunch time on a Saturday and not reopening until Monday am. That made any long distance travel pretty tricky.

Not really Rick. She's intelligent and articulate.

The sort of person some of your mates are afraid of.

β€˜Fuel stocks have risen since the Government’s last update, with data showing New Zealand has over 50 days’ worth of fuel remaining in each of the three major fuel types as of midnight last Wednesday.’

Costs are up but I don’t think we’re going to have chronic shortages that affect industry.

Great management by the govt and seems the panic and govt blaming was just the usual crisis over everything mob.

This is not correct. From the same article you've linked:

They're including fuel on the water and up to three weeks away from delivery. Not remaining.

Fucking hard to stock up on aviation fuel Rick

I have a trip to India leaving 23Apr so that should be ok and then late June to Ireland which is very problematic at the moment so hope that Wiz’s faith in the Govt is not misplaced

It's only Kero mate. Not sure how old you are but growing up, all the house heaters ran on Blue Pennant Kero. Every household had a stock of 5 gallon tins in the shed. Aircraft still ran on 100 octane then

Yeah, the Ireland trip could be a problem if this shitfest isn't resolved. We are supposedly heading to Europe in Sept so fingers crossed although we are booked through Singapore. Mrs Rick not too happy at the price of fares to Oz though for her grandchildren visits, I wonder who will blink first on the Tasman routes?

Good luck anyway.

Cheers Rick
Too old to reschedule for the following winter 🀀
We are also going through Singapore via Singapore Air but not sure they will fly in with enough to turn around and get back to Singapore though- perhaps they could hitch a few Jerry cans to the back of the plane as a reserve supply
