General Player of the year 2025

🤖 Thread Summary

Recently, forum members have debated the NZ Warriors' Player of the Year, with Erin Clark and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck RTS emerging as frontrunners. Defence #1 initially framed the discussion as a "shootout" between the two, while juju #6 noted RTS's late-season surge could challenge Clark's early lead. Clark is praised for unmatched consistency, durability, and value—Tookey 2.0 #13 highlighted his elite performances and modest contract, calling him the NRL's "buy of the year." Conversely, RTS garnered support for record-breaking winger performances, with ShaunJohnson7 #27 emphasizing his transformative impact on a historically weak position.

Alternative nominees sparked nuanced discussions. Tohu’s Knees #20 argued Wayde Egan was indispensable for the team's top-four finish, though Beastmode #31 countered concerns about Egan's injury history. Jackson Ford earned praise for stepping up amid injuries, with Naynay #5 crediting his reliability when Barnett was sidelined, while sup42 #14 lauded his aggressive defensive energy. CHT Chanelle Harris-Tavita and Kurt Capewell also received mentions for improvement and leadership, though Clark and RTS dominated votes.

Statistical evidence cemented Clark’s frontrunner status, as tajhay #26 shared dynamic metrics showing Clark "miles ahead" in season-long performance. Debates over positional value persisted—Defence #9 contended wingers are systemically undervalued, while MrFrankWhite #19 noted RTS’s brilliance felt expected. Ultimately, Clark’s granite-like consistency, kicking game, and “signature” attacking moves MrFrankWhite #21 swayed most voters, though RTS’s record-setting carries kept the debate fiercely competitive heading into final polling.

Clark easily for me. I don't think anyone expected him to be this good at the beginning of the year. Has been an elite 13, has been great on attack and defence. On top of this, Clark is almost certainly the buy of the year across the whole NRL, the numbers he's producing and likely on a modest contract.

Roger has been phenomenal this year, but I guess for me his step and meters have always been part of his game no matter where he plays in the backline, so whilst impressive, are almost standard for Roger. Also, at 600k he's probably slightly overpaid as a winger, so value wise Erin gets the nod over him too imo

Í went Ford. All three are deserving, but I have distinct memories of being shocked when Ford came on and turned into a heat seeking missile and flew at blokes at a hundred miles and hour and whacked them.

Clarks running is great, but Ford is crazy and I like madmen forwards for what they do for the confidence of people around them.

Shout out to Capewell when he was fully fit hitting dudes in the centers and folding them.

Hands down Erin Clark for me

RTS made a few blunders earlier this season with dropped balls and catches. Can’t recall if he missed a few games at the start also

Erin however has been a wall of granite. Don’t recall him making mistakes dropping balls missing games or giving away silly penalties

Easily the best player of the year

What a human specimen that guy is

RTS a commendable second followed by….

Kurt Capewell. That guy has turned back the clock and played some fantastic football this year. SOO call up. Mr reliable. Way more valuable than mr average Jackson Ford
