There are 33 claims against the current Act which has an estimated billions + projected cost to the government. Changes to the Act re-sets these claims' process, eliminating the projected payout and returning the governments books to a better outlook (balancing the budget). The issue is the claims affect thousands of women and years of work to get the claims heard.

The $500 million hasn’t occurred since the contract was cancelled but, if they’d read the RNZ article they linked their posts to, they’d had seen that just under $480 mil was spent before the contract was canceled and under the previous government. There are more men in dangerous jobs, dangerous jobs get generally have higher paying to compensate for this. Hence men get paid more because of this...
