NRL NRL Round 1, 2024 Discussion

There would be a mexican stand off over who would referee
I can't remember where I heard this quote or the context. "We will discuss it, but then we will do it my way".

Like most things in rugby league outside the NRL. Like rules or referee appointments the NRL would some how wing it so they get their way.

International Referees instead of neutral were home or away side provided. The ARL would complain that France/NZ etc don't have a suitable referee we need to use an NRL referee. The same with the rules, play NZ lets not play international rules all our players play in the NRL.

Will the sideline officials be wearing crash helmets
- enough sarcasm Akkkerz
Actually looking forward to todays games. We will all be a bit wiser then. Have a great TV afternoon/ evening guys & gals.

Not sure what to expect today, betting blind here ...... did a coin flip ended up with Eagles and Chooks. So that my first 2 tipping selections ... hope they get a good crowd.....

My Aussie mate(a self declared expert) is tipping Manly & Chooks.
I have done the opposite for 20 bucks.

Have they only cut down the in goals to accommodate for the length? Therefore the yardage lines on the pitch are still accurate?

No the actual field is 94 or 96m. There still marked as 10m but are actually 9.4 or 9.6m in length each.
Edit: it's 94.5m so 9.45m for each 10.

I wonder if the ref will be more lenient on big hits considering thats how they advertise the game in the USA.
Expecting a fake fight like the what origin has become with some pushing and shoving with the Ref letting it go as he has been given a draft script from NRL HQ.

Some Americans don't like real fights anymore anyway, the NHL got too over the top and new fans to their sport got sick of it so the fights have been seriously diminished somewhat like the evolution of the dry balls NRL.

Apparently the weather has been so bad that there is a lot of damage outside the ground that might hamper people from coming in to the stadium.

Any bets on Luke Brooks' season? I am picking he goes alright at 6. Not quite a breakout season, but a good one that lives or dies with the teams early success/failure.
