Foulkes was definitely lacking a bit of zip, to be expected for a young guy after the efforts in CHCH. Thought Duffy backed up pretty well. Gotta feel for Tickner

It's an interesting time with Blundell being called back for this test. Can understand that you shouldn't lose your spot due to injury, however his batting form has been in decline for so long it feels like this could be his swansong. Mitch Hay's good innings and superb glove work can't be ignored.

There was no need to rush him back either. Hopefully his hamstring gets through the next test. I'm also surprised we haven't blooded a new batsman or two. Our squad is aging badly and we will need a fairly large overhaul of our top 5 or 6 soon

It's a missed opportunity with Hay. We're definitely in for a deeper rebuild in the next three years, and there's the big three next year, which should be fantastic....provided our best bowlers can stay fit An attack of Henry, O'Rourke, Jamieson, Sears/Lister/Duffy isn't half bad.

Williamson will be around for all three I'm sure, but I have doubts on Conway.

That's the way we've always tended to be. Core group age, then hang on a bit long, couple years of very little quality, then next core group comes along.

NZC has never really been about forward thinking, but you could argue that the older guys need to be outplayed first.

Chicken and egg I guess.

Those hard yards in first class cricket look to have served him very well. With so many players around him breaking down his ability to bowl such long spells and pick up the crucial wickets was impressive.

I have seen comments denigrating the West Indies. They are at a loss ebb at the moment but they produced arguably the greatest test team ever. I highly reccomend the documentary 'Fire in Babylon' about how that team was created.
