General 2026 Fixtures

I know we never had much success with it, but the Storm v Warriors game was becoming quite an ANZAC tradition.
Beats me while the NRL made the call on/signed off on getting rid of it.
I hope that this Wellington ANZAC game will be against the Raiders and the fixture becomes permanent with the location alternating between Wellington and Canberra. Obviously, I'd rather it was Auckland but I'll take what I can get...
But breath is not being held in that department.

Usual hopes for the draw:
Raiders twice.
Broncos twice.
A weak draw during the Origin period so no-one can use the "Well, of course the Warriors are going to beat the Broncos/Storm, they've got six players out due to Origin!" argument.
A hard final month to get us primed for Finals Football.
If the Warriors were to play an away fixture on ANZAC Day this would be the best option.

Play the Raiders and alternate the game between the two countries' capitals.

The season opener against the Knights in 2023 at the Caketin had a bunch of pitch invaders at the end of the game (maybe during as well, can't remember the timing). I specifically remember one dude in headgear putting some impressive steps on security before being tackled by a ghost, and one guy trying to vault the signage on the sideline and absolutely smashing himself in a spectacular fail that would make OzzyMan proud (aka Destination F*cked 😅 )
Maybe it was wishful memory revisions from me as I am from Wellington and was in the crowd.

Roosters seem to be a team that can be very hit and miss over the opening few rounds of a season so if we're switched on and they're a little off in Rd 1 we could have a great start to the season.
Roosters lose a high percentage of opening round fixtures, I calculated it once nothing crazy, by memory they usually win say 55% or 60% of their matches but in the opening round it was 40% over a ten year spread I looked at (this was some time ago I looked this up)

Was Titans last year. Wests lost to the Knights 8-10 in the most dire game of rugby league ever witnessed. At least one hundred and twenty-six fans opted to blind themselves with beer bottles at half-time rather than endure the second spell. Allegedly.
My mistake. Tigers had it in 2024 rather than 2025
