I remember Sterlo well and he is usually a key target for me in these games when I play.

Nah keep it at $200k for every player. This games about strategy, if someone has coin saved at the end to purchase a gun on the cheap then well done to them.

I can't put my finger on what my exact concern is I have in my bones but if we were to raise it for the legends then I would raise it in parallel for the NRL players too. Having different minimum's creates some arbitrage situations and also opens the door to very canny operators, and there are some out there in this game, who can exploit the difference to their advantage and I don't think that lends itself to a fair and fun game especially for those who havn't played every year.

I guess the wildcard here is Chris Hodges.
If he gets a bid of $300k for Fittler which is too low obviously for his ability, would he be prepared to have his player go unsold or take the lower offer. Will be interesting to see.

We made a rule clarification yesterday he is obligated to take the highest bid no matter what it is for each legend.
To balance this out he will take the bid price into account with his random meddling he dishes out at the end of each round.
It is good you are going through the rules and starting to get ready. Last year Mr B stole a march early in the competition by being more prepared than everyone else and ended up winning.

Rule clarification and advice.
You must bid every round and it must be an active live bid. You can not for example bid lower than someone, that would not be a legitimate bid. There are going to be some rounds where you may not fancy any of the players beginning with that letter(s). You must still bid. A good strategy would be bidding a throw away low bid very early in the morning while the prices are still low on a popular player where you are sure you will be outbid later in the day. This is a legitimate tactic and will prove common place in the game. If you need a name for such bids I would call it a spoiled ballot bid.
Failure to bid at all equals an infraction.

So are the current player bids going to be visible but Hodges players private messages?

All open auction visible, Maximum 2 bids per player from each contestant. Bids close at 6pm sharp each day and open in the morning when the round master names the letter combination for the day,

You have me thinking of possibilities though such as every third round is a silent auction to mix things up. But maybe it is too late in the piece to make such a big change when people have been counting on open auctions.
I will chew on this but am leaning on sticking with open auctions this year and we can always do some silent auctions next year.
What do you and others think would you like to see the odd silent auction in the mixer?
There is a case for silent auctions as they avoid and minimise 5.58pm bids, which are allowed but some people will find annoying.

I don’t think it would be fair for certain rounds to be silent & others open, however maybe an option would be for the last 30 minutes to be silent but only those who have already bid on a player during the open bidding period get to bid again? Dunno just a pre-coffee thought, so probably dumb idea
I wouldn’t mind avoiding last second crazy bidding but then again perhaps that’s all part of the fun

OK let's leave out silent auctions at this stage.
@tajhay how would you feel or would you have capacity to program the thread, each round, to lock at a time known only to you between 5.30pm and 6pm each day. We did something similar in past years when I was the admin where you gave me rights over the thread. Except this time of locking would need to be a mystery to me as well. The goal I am trying to get to is reducing last minute bidding. If people don't know exactly what time the thread will lock they will get their bid in earlier and not try to wait to 5.58pm to gezumpt somebody. I want to if possible think of a way of avoiding or limiting gezumpting and this idea is what we have used in the past successfully.
You would also then need to reopen it an hour later each day?

Hey another thought re the compulsory bidding each round, how about if everyone gets 1 round where they don’t have to bid, just to provide a little bit of flex? Once you’ve used up that option then compulsory until you’ve either filled your team or run out of coin.

That's a good idea. Let's adopt that rule. However just in terms of the last sentence. You only need to bid each round. It doesn't need to be a successful bid. Hence my earlier post about deliberate spoiled ballot bids.

Hi Wrighty, I have a question about the 6pm closing.
Isn't that going to advantage people who bid late at 5.59pm etc. I can imagine there are going to be times some of us can't get on the forum at that time every day and the people who bid right before 6pm are going to have a huge advantage.
