Social Wrighty's Player Agent Game Rules posted

ANNOUNCEMENT

I have updated the rules in the Opening post based on
* The letter combinations choices you must pick from when it is your turn to be round master
* The list of now 69 legends/Chris Hodges stable.

Please come to me before November 1 with any further requested rule changes as would like to baseline the rules on that date and only make changes afterwards if absolutely an error or issue has been spotted.

I encourage everyone to review the opening post to see the rules in full

Here is Chat GPTs summary of the rules

NRL Player Agent Auction Game — Quick Rules Summary

Full rules and details are in the opening post of the thread. Read this version for a fast overview before play begins.

  • Picking a Hodges Agency player may trigger random Chris Hodges instructions, which you must follow.

Game Structure

  • 12 players + Chris Hodges, 12 rounds.
  • Each round has a Round Master, who:
    • Gets a bonus budget ($400K early, up to $600K final round).
    • Chooses a letter combo for that round.

Letter combinations (each used once):

  1. B
  2. M
  3. T

  5. F
  6. H
  7. S
  8. G & E & A
  9. L & K
  10. P & I
  11. J & R
  12. N, O, D, Y, U, V, & W

Players can only bid on last names beginning with one of the round’s letters.

  • Minimum bid = $200K, increments of $10K.
  • You must make at least one bid each round.
  • Max two bids per player.
  • Auctions open each morning and close 6PM sharp.
  • Aim to build the best 17-player squad (you can own more).

Hodges Events

Random interventions may occur (e.g. forced fines, restricted bids, or lineup changes).

Endgame

  • After Round 12, managers vote on the best team.
  • Keep your team list and budget updated in a separate thread.

Conduct

Clarification on rule:

‘Players can only bid on last names beginning with one of the round’s letters.’

Are hyphenated names like Tuivasa Sheck eligible under T and S?

Great Question.
You have made me look smart as I already thought someone would ask that.
From the detailed rules in the opening post it states

  • Contestants must attempt to acquire players whose last names begin with the letter(s) for the round. Note names like Harris-Tavita start with an H.

But we are going to have to be careful and decide if the hyphenated name belongs to the first name or last name.
Sonny Bill Williams will begin with W. As his first name is Sonny Bill.
So Tuivasa Sheck is a T only and may only be drafted when letter T comes up.

Roger.

Hmm.. thought I had you there stress testing the rules…
Well I may need to clarify the detailed rules as it lists on the page his full legal name and also a main header name on the page and we will be going by the main page title name. So I will head that dispute off at the pass by clarifying the rules. So thank you for stress testing.

I have added this to the rules in the opening post
"
  • Source of truth for names spelling is Rugby League Project as there name is listed in big font on the top of the player's page.

I have considered dropping the minimum bid slightly. But decided to keep it as is at $200,000. That is low enough.

W had dropped out so I have added it to option xii

List of potential letter pairings. The round master would choose one of the options listed and that option can only be picked once.
i) B
ii) M
iii) T
iv) C
v) F
vi) H
vii) S
viii) G&E
ix) L&K
x) P&I
xi) J & R
xii) A & N & O & D & Y & U & V & W

Hi

Regarding this rule
"The Round master gets an extra $500,000 to spend in that round. Roundmasters 9 and 10 will be given $750 000 for having to wait that long and Roundmasters 11 and 12 will be given $1,000,000K for having to wait that long. "

I wish to tweak to as follows for game balance reasons, let me know if any concerns or will do so later tonight

"The Round master gets an extra $400,000 to spend in that round. Roundmasters 9 and 10 will be given $600, 000 for having to wait that long and Roundmasters 11 and 12 will be given $800,000K for having to wait that long. "

I have received feedback on W being powerful so I suggest taking "A" out of the last grouping.

W had dropped out so I have added it to option xii. Letter W is now the only decent letter in group xii) so that group won't be overbalanced.

Let me know if more feedback.

Always hard to work out what makes sense however that looks fair to me. One suggestion is that we consider staggering the round master bonus cash a bit more - perhaps something like first 5 round masters get $400k, next 3 get $500k, next 2 $600k and last 2 $700k?

Yeah the staggering didn't feel right to me either so I was hoping for feedback. Thank you.

Let's bounce this back and forwards. 800K is too much for any round.

Counter proposal
First 7 rounds 400K
Rounds 8-10 500K
Rounds 11-12 600K

Mr B I am sick at home so have been running game hypotheticals to stress test the rules and my first proposal (500, 750, 1M) was putting too much money into the hands of the roundmaster. We had $400k as the bonus last year and it worked really well and we made a rule on the fly and gave like $800K or even a million to the last guy. I can't remember how much we gave and wish I could remember. If the round master has too much cash, even slightly too much, it will tip the game balance and it won't be fun or fair.
As little as changing it from $500K to $400K should be enough to tip the scales correctly.

I would like to keep it as $400K for as many rounds as possible before lifting.

I have counter proposed the following
Counter proposal
First 7 rounds 400K
Rounds 8-10 500K
Rounds 11-12 600K

My preference would be to actually make the first 8 rounds 400K.
Because this is letter based there will be a spread of talent rather than the good picks going early. However there is advantages to being round master early which are readily apparent in terms of getting off to a good start early.
