I’d be ropeable if we let him go early
I'd be fucked off to the power of 3. As a fan it ma
Here is some tin foil hat theories for you.

I questioned at the time putting Linnane in the top 30. With Linnane we have 5 halves in our top 30 and there is a genuine opportunity cost to the balance of the squad by having too many of any position.
By putting Linane in the top 30 and MAYBE if you believe 5 and Last we offered Inch a top 30 role - have they known this has been coming for a while or at least had fears of it happening and built in some back up plans.
Very plausible theory and it is what I was thinking too. I still say that the delay is normal because he'll be wanting the highest price due to age, point of his career, was leading Dally M before he got injured. He'll want a 4-5 year million per season deal.

BUT, as you said we're now heavy in the halves. If Metcalfe left it would answer a few questions. It would explain why we have Jye Linnane, Shane Hanson, CHT, Boyd, Cleary, Thompson. You have an injury-prone star (Linnane), CHT an experienced back-up, with Hanson our 'waiting to see if he has what we want', at 6. At 7 you'd have Boyd, Cleary, Thompson.

Which would mean you're looking at the year starting with CHT/Boyd. This would piss off a lot of day 1 fans like myself because it always feels like the moment things are going good, something happens and we're re-building again. Never quite getting to the top. Always re-building.

It might explain thought why Inch's signing has not been confirmed. It may be conditional on whether Metcalfe resigns or not.

You then have CHT/Boyd as placeholders for 2026. Linnane/Hanson fighting to supersede CHT with Inch as the next developing 6. Over the next 2 years Linnane will either be injury-prone and we let him go or he cements 6 for the next 2/3 years. If he gets injured, Hanson will step up and be our 6 until Inch has learned the game enough to command a FG position.

Then Cleary would be pushing Boyd and may win out by year end. But then you're also asking TMM/Hanson to cover 7. We'd be 6 heavy and 7 light. Not the best scenario but may benefit Cleary.

Either way, Metcalfe leaving would not be good short-term. Medium term we will be ok. But short term we'd be screwed next year. CNK/CHT/Boyd are not going to win us a premiership, we know this. Even CNK/Linnane/Boyd won't be enough.

CNK or Tuaupiki/Linnane/Metcalfe at least has a chance.

I reckon we've tried to lowball him and he's going to test the market.

I think that is unlikely.

I would expect we have offered fair market value.

But when Dylan Brown is getting $10m he is stupid not to sniff around.

I suspect a team like Dragons will be willing to pay massive overs.

And lets not forget about Perth. A 6 / 7 of Munster / Metcalf would be a sweet bloody start.

Two camps here: has he delayed signing till after all the chaos surrounding a wedding or he's not got it out of the way beforehand because he's on the move. There are optimistic and pessimistic arguments for both.

I reckon we've tried to lowball him and he's going to test the market.
I think he’s testing the market regardless especially with expansion sides in the mix.

There's creative ways for teams to make contracted players aware of what they would offer them without formally making an offer.

POS used to be the king of this when he was with us.

I have no doubt the Metcalf knows what his suitors are going to offer him come 1 November and wants to use this as leverage to get us to bump up our offer.

Metcalf has either signed a contract and the Warriors and him are waiting until after his wedding is done to announce, or he is going to test the market. If he is going to test the market, I would say it's a 75% chance he will go in 2027.

If it's only about money, I think he would be re signing, as we have the advantage of upgrading what he gets paid next season, while not having to relocate. His injury history limits his contract value. If he's more into family, then the Dragons would make sense. I don't think there are many Sydney clubs able to throw $1 million around for 2027. Maybe Manly if Turbo goes? He's not enough of a shit head for the Bunnies to sign, and I think their cap balance is way out anyway.

Sounds good, but questions where that leaves Kali.

Norris not too far off either.

Good problem to have. "Who the hell do we leave out" is better than "Who the hell else can we put in".
RTS will be gone at the end of 26, So AKP will start on the left wing in 27. DWZ will be gone by the end of 27. Mellars will be the right winger in 28. Which means Kali will be the backup left winger in 27 & can cover centre. Norris will be the backup right winger in 28 & cover fullback.

If Norris and Kali are as talented as they look I doubt either of them are happy to be back up wingers in 3 years time and I doubt other clubs will be sitting on their hands with no contract offers.

If he can pump out what he did this year again and that article mentioning communication between himself and the club, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an extension. Obviously big money on the table in his offer but the opportunity to do something special and stay home might be attractive. This is a guy that looks after himself and puts in ten fold so age wouldn’t worry me so long as he’s performing and sets standards around the club. Could see benefits with him as a yardage winger and strike with AKP on the other side
