Recruitment Warriors 2026/2027 Recruitment & Retention

I can't shake the feeling the Warriors signing NAS is like the Toronto Maple leafs signing late Career washed up Eric Lindros in the NHL.

I don't think it is good idea at all to sign NAS even if a low price for one year for two reasons
1) He is known to the judiciary and they have their eye on him and ready to ban him for any wrong move he makes
2) He would be in the Warriors and maybe this is tin foil hat but our players get long sentences with the judiciary

The combination of factor one and two make this a pass for me.

Wrighty
NAS is one of yours
From the Hutt
He probably used to ride the English Electric red rattlers like you
Potentially he is your brother

Then there’s talk of AKP too

Out of the two AKP is the more important for what we need in the squad - speed.

A 1 year deal for NAS is interesting. I was on the fence but I am thinking it is probably for the best he doesn't come.

Sure 5 years ago when the NRL was not cracking down on high shots and Nelson was in his prime I can see why he would have got $850,000.

But the risk factors are too large:
1. The biggest issue is attitude and this seems to be why the Storm got rid of him. We couldn't risk him coming in to the team and even impacting 1 or 2 of our young players with bad habits.
2. The game has moved away from NAS. He is an enforcer and the NRL is trying to stamp out those players. And would he be so effective at 30 years old and losing the strongest part of his game. He would have to change his outlook and style of playing the game. That will take more than an off season to sort out most likely.
3. Unless we were paying $500k or less out of our pocket and he met criteria 1 and 2, then no way. Yes we need a bigger body in the middle but the risk factors are high. If he did meet the above criteria I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him. He could be great, but it is probably more likely he may not and backs are more of a priority for us right now.

To be honest I expected more of Fish this year especially for the amount of money we are paying him. That is more concerning to me and hopefully with Barnett back next year he rises to greater heights.

I back the the club in their pursuit of AKP that they’ve identified speed that we require but he’s got some work to do defensively or we’re going to need a sliding defence to cover his deficiencies because he can be as poor as DWZ in being caught out. He’s fast enough where he might be better to chase a player down like Tuaupiki seems to be better at. I still feel the same way and really hope we acquire NAS if it’s a possibility. When I look at his best years at the storm they had a strong leadership group and also a strong Kiwi leader in Jesse Bromwich and I think we have that to keep him accountable. There’s no denying he has some work to do around discipline. We’ve got Barnett who’s had his discipline issues in the past like the bad one where he elbowed the guy running past and was banned for a bit. If Webster could get him to channel that aggression in the right areas like Barnett does and lower his target area, shit even grab the jersey and scrag them rather than hit high. I would imagine Bellamy is a hard man and we’ve heard Erin Clark mention how it’s been a comfort to come to a club that cares, or words to the effect. Imagine if we had NAS feeling the same way and he went to another level like Clark has, home games would be absolute bedlam when he gets the ball and these Kiwi signings can be good because of the sense of home and not losing them at origin time. That’s my pitch anyway and probably unlikely he comes over anyway

Because he’s being measured against AFB, which he isn’t. On field they’re not the same players in what AFB offers. He’s only been here in his first season but I’ve been hugely impressed in how he’s brought in and seems to pop up in videos unexpectedly like with the nsw cup guys after the first grade season was over. His attitude is going to be invaluable and as great as AFB is, I’m not convinced his attitude is what you want passed on the the next crop

I am back and forth on NAS but if we have a spare spot and we are not able to sign a fullback, with cash to spare then why not sign him for a year and move him on for a fullback in house or from Aussie after? Unused cap doesn’t give you bonus premiership points. Bear hug tackles only or second man wrap to avoid offloads

Assuming we sign AKP, extend Luke and upgrade as appropriate

The Warriors have played the ultimate poker face. Now we get NAS cheap. He has taken on our usual story line, come home to win our first GF. Our big bopper now sorted ha ha.. Now we just need some speed and flair.
I wouldn’t play him in our best 17 if we got him for free. He’s a lazy ass, Hardly puts in even under Bellamy. He’s only good when he plays us lol
