I've always wished NZ would introduce a public voting system for Judges. In NZ at the moment, there is no way to hold them accountable. The only complaint system is the Judicial Conduct Commissioner, is a joke and only exists to uphold the illusion of accountability. I remember when the Chief Justice Judge Elias and her husband had multiple complaints about their cattle roaming in a number of waterways. They escaped a fine and had further complaints of a similar nature, some just three months later; no action was ever taken, not even a fine.

I have seen firsthand some disgusting family court judgments that break numerous laws; however, they can not be reported on by the media. Appeals are often sent back by the high court to the same family court judge who oversaw the original proceedings. The family court does not even follow basic rights, such as getting a copy of a hearing transcript to base an appeal on. Judges can not be held accountable if they break the law, even low Judges, which includes the family court (District court) share the same immunity as high court judges. District Court Act 2016 s23.

There exists a cabal of law firms working in cooperation, milking the legal aid system to bring trivial and unmerited claims as punishment by narcissistic parents and payments for the lawyer for child, sometimes leaving children in dangerous situations for years.

Not yet. Jones is still the biggest cunt but Nash is fast catching up
For those of you who missed the news, NZ First has finally elected a new deputy leader..... drumroll please..... or should that be eyeroll please.... Shane Jones.

Funny thing is, I care so little about NZ First, and in particular, Shane Jones, I thought he already was their Deputy Dawg.

The likeness is uncanny!!!

Shonkiest politician ever

I've met him many times and he is full of shit. The last time I saw him was about a year ago in Winston's office when he was bemoaning "climate nonsense". Winston compounded the embarrassment of the gathered ministry officials by telling a racist joke.

As an aside, Shane once came to my office in Parnell - quite drunk for early afternoon - and disappeared for about half an hour. We later discovered that he had fouled the toilet in quite a disgusting manner.

Perfect metaphor for nz first

Can't read this (yet, it's paywalled but free in a few days), the lede says it all. Appalling we're paying so much, this is due mostly to neoliberal driven privatisation. This government will ignore this failure for ordinary New Zealanders and seek to push for further privatisation.

Where NZ has fallen behind a lot of other countries isn't that we haven't change enough from fossil fuel supplied generation to renewable or that we did it too fast.... our problem is that we haven't provided enough storage capacity yet in the form of battery storage so we're still reliant on gas and coal to make up the shortfall when required.... meaning our wholesale prices are still rising.

Overall, power from renewables is now cheaper than coal or gas because the cost of the batteries to store the power is around 85% less than it was in 2010.... but we've rushed too quickly into adopting renewables (such as solar and wind) without the storage capacity. So when we have had to generate power through coal and/or gas, it's cost us more.

We currently have only one commercial BESS (a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System) run by Meridian completed and commissioned in Ruakākā Energy Park, Northland attached to a solar farm which received fast track approval under the COVID approval scheme.

Love it or hate it, the current governments fast track schemes means that five more battery schemes will receive approval far faster than under the old RMA... Mercury is planning a BESS near the Whakamaru Hydro station in the Waikato, Contact is currently building a grid-scale battery to supply NZ Steel at Glenbrook from wind and solar generation, Contact have also received consent for a 100 kW BESS in Stratford and CentrePort has applied for 500 kW BESS for the Wellington Port and rail system.
