If people think DWZ is bad defensively... Sloan is on another level.

I don't see anyone taking him. His game is built around having raw speed at winger. But he isn't in the top ten in the league for pace.

There’s an acknowledgment of that on their forum and they think dragons will have to pay a hefty part of his salary for the remainder of his contract there. He comes off contract end of 2026

Dragons forum reckons Cobbo to cowboys. Apparently cowboys in talks with Sam Stonestreet too. Payten needs to get cowboys winning or his job is gone

He's shown time and time again he's not NRL level. Dufty 2.0. Will kill it in the ESL, don't think he'll get a contract anywhere else.

He actually had a semi respectable tackle efficiency last year over 24 games as a sample. Just a bit under what DWZ’s tackle efficiency is, and been around a similar tackle efficiency to his over their careers, though DWZ with many more years under his belt

Your eyes should provide those stats. Think it’s a much tougher position than it gets credit for the wing. Don’t think I’ve seen one that doesn’t get it wrong and I feel like a big part of DWZ’s decline has been Berry injured. They have a good connection like Leiataua and Tuaupiki

A good stat to look at would be a 'with and without' Berry for DWZ, see if there's a bit difference either way in the way he plays

Sloan just turned 23, DWZ will turn 30 in 2 months. Thats more of the consideration. Sloan has been improving defensively as well, much more willing to get into contact than past years.

I would rather have Sloan than Harper.

He’s on $500k per season. Would you take that over for next season and offer anything like that past 2026?

Fark no. Min wage this year and next with Dragons paying 50%. Get Boyd to take him under his wing. Pun intended

Crazy money! I guess they had him as a fb when signed tho, so reasonable for an up and comer who looked electric on attack...

I think it all depends on what Webby sees - can be turn Sloans defence around? If so, we could get a good attacking player for an absolute steal for a couple of years, where he can also put himself in the shop window and look for a bigger contract back home in Oz in the next couple of years.

If Webby doesn't think he can improve his defence, I guess id still consider him. We're losing MGT next year, and with DWZ, Roger, Ali and Berry all fairly injury prone and none of our rookies ready to hold down a FG spot next year, an 18 month contract from now til the end of 2026 could be the ticket until one of our juniors are able to step up.

Surely, we have an outside back ready to step up when Roger is done at the end of 2026?

Didn't we have a Fijian winger debut in Cup? He made a few mistakes, But it was his debut. So can be forgiven.

Sloane at half price of $500K is fine by me, release Harper and see if his defense can be upgraded by Webby, if not just release him again. Those tries he was scoring for a crap team...imagine when he plays in a good system.
