Outside of the result which was disappointing , I’d Ike to see the NRL allow teams to activate their 18th man if a player is ruled out with an HIA within the first 20 minutes.
It’ seems counter intuitive a player can be ruled out medically and then the team is disadvantaged numbers wise for the remainder of the majority of the game while a player designated to come on if a teammate is ruled out with an HIA via foul play continues to sit on the pine?

Panthers overall were on the better side of the stats, a couple I found interesting though is 20 ineffective tackles to the panthers 1 shows we weren’t dominating in the tackle with them making more metres out of their sets and panthers not inside the 10 once. Give me a break on that one

Seems like a bad idea not to kick deep from the drop out with 1 minute left before halftime. Think that try before halftime hurt. Don’t think Capewell in any way changes the result but a few little effort areas lacking at times that he usually leads
Kurt's absence played a big part in this defeat. He has a steady influence on this team and could have been the difference.

Well that's put a dampener on Matariki, first game of the year and we flopped, not as bad as Vegas though.
Good way to look at it.

Matariki is round one, first game of the season.

Now we have had our stumble at the start, we know where we need to go from here to match or try to better the māori year we just ended.

You should divide your seasons into blocks for better focus and goal setting. Right now we are on zero points on our new year mini ladder.

If he was there, Cleary and co were there for the Panthers…

In hindsight we had to many green players and TSS and MGT tipped us over the edge where it was 2 young teams matching up.

Hindsight again but maybe we should have gone Afoa/Ale and either Harper or Kosi to wing; RTS moving in just for the experience.

Berry always being out is a real issue…

A couple of thoughts...
  • first game this season without either Barnett or Capewell in the team. I think their leadership has been important.
  • kick chase was a bit poor, which ruins the whole gameplan.
  • none of our backs seem confident taking bombs, and it's been that way all season.
  • TMM as a utility is a bit of a wasted bench spot, especially if he's not considered to replace an injured halfback.

Why can’t we ever have a day game at Mt Smart

It’s always cold windy and miserable in the evening

Look at Auckland football when they play in glorious warm sunny conditions… that’s how we should be selling the city
Cause NRL viewership..... It's BS I agree

Agree with TMM being a wasted bench spot, but I can see Websters thinking in having him in the centres over one of the forwards. He's meant to be there to cover the backline

I like TMM and wanted him as 7 with Metcalf as 6 at the start of the season, but he’s ineffective as cover.

Has he done anything in any of his games as cover? Nothing like the impact from Walker last season.

Like when he played 6 beside SJ and didn’t see much ball, he’s ineffective in attack. He doesn’t have the size to do much in defence.

All or nothing for me with TMM.
