Social ðŸ“º TV

See what you mean, he was obviously v disturbed. Does Tate promote any of those things to boys?

I think he promotes stoicism through masculinity. He could do a better job promoting less about materialism and more about stoical values so it’s clear to young men the responsibility they have future fathers, leaders and men in society.

Problem with Tate is I don’t think he sees it as his responsibility. He’s just leading his best life which is maybe the appeal. I don’t think he’s got any sons. If he did maybe he would take a more proactive role in trying to shape the minds of young adults in a positive way.

The guy is no saint.

What if he's just another scammer targeting our vulnerable and easily influenced boys for $

The kid was batshit crazy. Ep 3 proved it.

Masculinity has nothing to do with having a superior complex, disrespecting women and feeling entitled as the show tried to imply

Seems like men are on the defensive for all the wrong reasons to me.

There is is anti woke culture in men especially where they believe that criticism of toxic masculinity somehow threatens their manhood.

It is as if they don't want women to come forward and say how it is living around men, in fear of men, at risk from men...as if this truth somehow should be kept quiet because it might offend some men who are not perverts or creeps or violent.

I believe we men have to own it. We have to accept that our male culture sucks. It is shit. Blokes need to evolve, like Darwinian shit to save the species and the planet.

I’m still fascinated that people need to watch a podcast on how to be a man, or a woman, or whoever. We’re ourselves and individualism is applauded in my view. What you describe as the traditional male are old and dated and I think it’s why trumps message resonates to make America great again. He’s talking about going back to these old and dated views of male and female roles in society and the traditional view around race that existed and still lingers

This embracing your masculinity movement always sounded a bit gay to me, I don't judge anyone though.
Fairly homoerotic sports like league and the like with men writhing over each other and displays of affection in try celebrations. Ian Roberts knew a good thing, Hopoate liked a stink finger. Couldn’t care less, bet most players would have asked Hopoate to at least buy them a drink first though

I know I am old, but I still don't get the point of influencers.

Like who the hell needs some random to tell them what to like, to me it is like funding TV Evangelists crossed with the shopping network.

And to the point where they gain such a platform. I got left behind some time ago, but I’ve never actually watched one to be able to make judgement. Just seems like so many aren’t comfortable in their own skin

Black Mirror is back! Episode 1 of the new season was great.
Watched this last night

Very thought provoking and disturbing

I don’t know why but it seems everything I have watched recently is about a totally fucked society - White Lotus, Adolescence, Black Mirror…. nothing positive … all the writers are a bunch of sickos.. the production company’s backing the production really need a moral compass..

Thanks for the recommends guys, I would not get to see these shows without this thread. I tend to be very fussy about what I watch.

Watched Adolescence the other day, I thought it was VERY cleaver.

However the Psychologist was annoying in as much as no Psychologists asks leading questions like that (but the story needed her to lead the conversation to make its points).

The Father in the show was a powerful, confronting, real figure. The way he ends up losing his shit was really clever because they gave his character arc every justification for losing his temper. But even though I sympathized with him flying into a rage, I could easily see myself doing the same in his shoes....you still were left uncomfortable about how the women in the family were tip toeing around him on 'dad's birthday'.
It makes you question whether as a man you are entitled to lose your shit under any circumstances if that means it scares people you love.

The boy in the show was brilliant, he was 'normal' if there was anything abnormal about him it was his emotional intelligence / which is counter to his emotional naivety when it comes to relationships with the girl he murders.

The show cleverly sets it up so that the child and the father both have justifiable rage.

Brave of the show creators to construct a narrative about the families of these criminals we loath from the comfort of our couches....we tend not to think about the perpetrators family....we tend not to see them....they are victims too.

Who among us has not leapt to judge Ted Bundy's family? who among us has not looked judgementally at the wife of BTK or the Mother of Ed Kemper?

The HBO "Celtic City" on the Boston Celtics was really good. 9 Part 1 hour episodes on the history of the Celtics.

Our club could learn alot
