Our whole game plan over the past two seasons revolved around him so I get the feeling they think he goes alright
Think he’s just real and comes across exactly as he is, there’s no act. Bit of an ego there, but I think you’d need too to succeed in such a sport with so much scrutinysure, if hes willing to put the boots back on.
We all know a good player doesnt mean a good tactian/coach.
Its not a knock on SJ. i think his character is 100% perfect for teaching primary school kids.
Hes got a goofy funnyish aura about him
Because those kids would of been picked up by every other club when we had no pathways system like harold matts and jersey flegg. So we've picked up our forwards from those who we can recurit and who recently joined NSW cup in the last 2 years. From my understanding ford is 187 cm, only prop in NSW cup at the moment taller is bunty at 188cm. And that devlopment into first grade matters a lot when it comes to a player sticking around. Just look at hazleton, we and some other clubs threw a lot of money at him but he'd happly stay at the sharks for less.I just watched the Harold Matts and Jersey Flegg highlights.
Big strong island boys. Damaging runs up the middle. Warriors have always been known for their size and physicality.
So begs the question why are we not nurturing and developing this model in FG?
Why have we been hell bent on going against this for the last two seasons. Our pack is getting smaller and smaller. It’s ridiculous.
Webby - please explain yourself here
AFB should have been surrounded by other big bloopers like he is now at Cronulla. Instead we surround him with Ford, Barnett, Jazz.. fuck even lussick was given a stint last season playing prop
The Dragons edge forwards look more like Warriors than our spare parts blokes salvaged from the scrapheap. I blame Eric Watson for not funding pathways all those years. Then covid, but what can you do, we just have to eat it until we catch up.Because those kids would of been picked up by every other club when we had no pathways system like harold matts and jersey flegg. I honestly think Webby shit the bed vs the Raiders, Ricky Stuart is living rent free in Webby's head.
I would imagine it’s the role of the coach to make players want to come here. Winning will help, if we are a shit show again this year, nobody will want to come here.He is not without blame, but he couldn't help the Tohu retirement, players unwilling to come to NZ and our lack of development over the Covid years.
Especially after reading Ivan Clearys book I think pushing out Andrew Webster when he is still learning would be a mistake, unfortunately unless we sign a Craig Bellamy, Wayne Bennett-esque coach we are going to have to give these newer coaches time, rather than continually making the mistake of pushing them out. It's a lesson I hope our club management has learnt over the clubs history.
Probably like every other halfLets be honest, he's a cock!
Good footy player but a cock none the less.
Tangata-Toa was most recently at the Bulldogs, but (according to Wikipedia) was at the Panthers a few years back.Someone I think is very astute is nsw cup coach David Tangata-Toa. Was a part of the panthers juggernaut as nsw cup coach there before coming over and seems to be having some success with our nsw cup team to some degree and players like Vaimauga, Halasima, Leiataua, EIT and plenty more seem to have become nrl ready players playing under him. I wouldn’t mind him coming up as an assistant coach, but wonder if he’s too valuable at nsw cup level in his development of players coming through?
This is the gap between success in Matts and success in Ball / Flegg. At Matts level, size and power can get you over the line (and, in our case, win it) - but it isn't enough at Ball / Flegg level. Once these kids are getting to 18-19, they've had 4-5 in high performance / development academies with top class coaching, resources and mentoring. Those kids are trained how to win against big boppas - weather the storm, play fast and keep the ball in play.I just watched the Harold Matts and Jersey Flegg highlights.

But Gus wasn’t the head coach and Webby isn’t the GM.Tangata-Toa was most recently at the Bulldogs, but (according to Wikipedia) was at the Panthers a few years back.
Looking forward to see him go well with our Cup boys.

Webby and Cappy need time to improve our pathways - it is going to take more than 2.25 years... Penrith's dynasty. That begun with Gus' "five year plan" that he announced in a letter to Panthers members. In reality, he was a bit optimistic - if he had said "ten year plan" he would have been a rugby league savant, because after ten years of building up the development pathways in the Panthers' (pretty wide) catchment would come the beginning of an NRL Premiership 4-peat.
We, as fans, need to have patience. I'm guilty of it, and damn-right we can question some of Webby's calls (I, for one, can't explain holding back Halasima and Vaimauga - see Fonzy's theory on the TWL pod for one potential explanation), but calling for the "sack the coach" thread to be opened up is insanity. Have we not learned that sacking coaches doesn't improve results on the field in the long-term. Trust in Webby and Cappy to build us toward success.
(P.s., our fanbase thinking Jett is going to play NRL soon and/or be the next Nathan Cleary is the exact reason why Ivan got Jett away from the Penrith system... could you imagine the Penrith fans' expectations?! In reality, the kid is a developing football player living under a weight of expectation. He couldn't cement a spot in the Panthers Flegg side last year, hasn't played a NSW Cup game and has had some minutes playing against men in just two trial games - cool your jets (pun intended) and just enjoy watching the kid's development.)
Agree, if they are good enough to make the 17 then use them.Tangata-Toa was most recently at the Bulldogs, but (according to Wikipedia) was at the Panthers a few years back.

I have not seen enough from Capewell to justify his selection over someone like Laban. Maybe he is great in training but so far on the pitch it has been underwhelmingPlayers say how much they love webby, and how he's great at getting to know them on a personal level, shouldn't that make it easier for him to make tough calls on guys like Niukore and Capewell?
I mean why do we owe it to capewell if he's not performing? I think after the first bye round, should be when webby makes the calls.
It's not personal, we just want to see what this guy can bring etc.
