Just speculating here, hopefully no intelligence experts shoot the messenger.
I suspect China flexing off the coast of Aus was a message to the Americans, not so much to Aus.
I suspect at the heart of it China are rightly nervous themselves about Trumps behavior (the Chinese know he is unstable). The move to sail by Aus was strategic, to poke five eyes without directly involving the real target the crazy head of the five eyes snake.
Just on Five eyes, if Canada drop out, the name change to four eyes is comedy gold.
Since this current NZ government is so keen on saving money.... I wonder of Winnie will be phoning Trevor in Dublin to see if he wants the London gig. Save travel costs from getting a new High Commissioner from NZ to England.
