News has come out that Craig Bellamy has been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disorder. He'll keep coaching for now. 🤞
Fuck, really puts that latest press confrence (at around 6:20) into perspective where they asked "do you think you've lost buy in from the playing group" and grant jumped in to defend him for a while. Their is a good argument for him being the best coach the game has ever had (maybe a little bit behind Gibson and Bennett. Ivan TBD).

I hope he has a long time to go before it gets too bad. And is able to retire at the end of this year to send time with his family on the GC.

Why would we want to move one of, if not the best 6's in the comp? If he was at another club putting up the performances and numbers he is we would be calling out for Cam George to get him signed up.

Ticks a lot of the boxes for us - durable, great defender, left foot kicker, can put on try assists and line break assists, try scorer, great team chemistry and a kiwi.

Nah. People have turned on him. Not all. But there are some who don't see any value in him not just because of his two games this season but because of his injury history and his record not being what they expect from a player of his pay bracket

But...what are you finding so crazy about the situation?

Metcalf is maybe one of the most injury prone players out there atm, his record is abysmal at staying on the park. I wish it wasnt the case but thats fact.

Hes obviously a good player, but with those injuries its been impossible to plan a team around him. But, he was all we had last year so offered him a good contract.

We now have a player, who, with the players around him is able to implement Webby's plan. As a result of this, we're sitting in 2nd and have looked better as a team than we ever have with Metcalf. Imo, this is the best we've looked in a long time, even better than 2023 with SJ.

    AND hes younger than Met?
AND his body holds up better than Mets?
    AND hes cheaper than Met?

I'd love us to be able to include Met in the team some how, but its going to take an injury, huge drop of form, or Met to offer something that Boyd and CHT aren't, because atm he's not taking either of their spots.

telling myself it’s just talks and nothing serious it’s just talks and nothing serious on repeat. deep breaths.

hopefully the warriors are drawing up the contract documents right now
Our club actively encourages our players to test themselves on the market to find their worth. It seems to be part of the way the club shows that it values the players so as to have fair discussions with them when re-signing.

I can't say I'd be in a hurry to work under Payten.

Hand on heart do you think Boyd can go to another level at finals time?

No I don't think so, we have seen the best of him, and it's very good. There is no higher level for him.

He won't lift us off the canvas if the forwards are getting dominated.

But I would argue that nor should he. I think our gameplan is pretty beautiful, win the ruck, control the middle and lay a platform for Boyd to do his work, CHT chimes in when needed.

I'd argue that our success comes down to JFH, Egan, Ford, Clark, Barny, Leka, Demi - if these guys can do their job then Boyd's stock standard game looks like Joey Johns

Its a smart move for everyone involved IMO. Luai will be 31 by the time he laces his boots for them.

He obviously gets the cash. And why not capitalise when his perennial wooden spooners are near the top.

PNG get a marquee name to sell to other players.

West Tigers get 1.2m to spend on someone else.

I hope the Chiefs are a success. PNG deserves it.

Hand on heart do you think Boyd can go to another level at finals time?
    Yes.

Same question can be asked of the whole team. If they are reaching another level it will make it easy for both halfs

Guy can't do it on his own nor should he be expected to.

Will he choke as you suggest?, maybe, however we are already seeing some subtle increases in confidence.

Nailed the conversion to win us the game on the weekend. Pretty clutch kick

Probably been brought up before but for some reason this is the first time I've seen one of the old stat blocks @tajhay has made for the site come up in a thread. Quite cool to see historical data recorded back then come up in threads!
Theres stats for every player, every game (that has recorded stats going all the way back to 2002 or so ;)

For example if you wanted to see how shaun johnson went throughout his career...

I’d have us rated about 4th behind Penrith, Tigers and Rabbitohs on form.

We’ve had a very cushy draw so far having only played two teams in the top 8 and the only win being the famously slow starting roosters in round one.

I think we are capable of being a top 2 team but we’ll know more after the broncos and the panthers games coming up.
We are the 2nd best team when you look at the stats- 2nd best attack, 2nd best points differential and we are also 1st or 2nd in many of the important stats (ie possession, completion, etc). So if you take a holistic view across the whole season so far, we are currently playing like the 2nd best team in the comp.

It is also a bit misleading to look back retrospectively and say we had an easy draw based on the form of the teams we beat. Especially when the consensus about us pre-season was that our start to the season would be rough without Barney and Mets because these teams would be contenders (ie Raiders, Storm, Phins, etc). You could probably make the same argument with the other 3 teams you mentioned as they've all largely beaten teams that are terribly out of form.

Fact is right now, we are outright 2nd as we have 6 wins and the other 4 teams on 12 pts have already had a bye. I could be wrong, but we are the only team in the top 4 this time last year that is again in the top 4. That level of consistency is something we should be celebrating.

What really strikes me with retention and recruiting is the amazing job the Warrior's organisation is doing.
It's clear that a healthy ,competitive squad culture trumps alot of our conjecture. When players are genuinely "sold" on the club's ideals , regardless of exactly who plays where, you see success.
Witness Manly, Tigers , Broncos, Rabbitos turnaround and the faith in Cleary at Penrith that paid off last season despite a dire start. At the other end you've got/had good players just checking out namely Dragons and Storm.
At Nrl level we've seen that for most of our time. Hopeless Ownership organisation, and coaches and recruitment.
Isn't it fantastic just to trust in the Club and the coaches believing they'll do their best given the players throughout the grades who want to be on the journey , with a next man up policy and a club that has integrity.
Good times. So whether it's TMM, CHT, LM , TB I'm relaxed knowing that the experts are in charge .
