I wonder if it may have worked better with a higher min bid- I think the min pay in nrl is around $400,000 now?
Which would counteract the black sheep bonus.
If u ran with that it might stop all the low bids which kinda corrupted the salary cap because u could go all in on the big stars and just top up the side with bargains.
Although maybe that was part of the fun/skill?

Ran pretty well for the most part.

When I designed the game it was supposed to be so you treated your excess players very carefully - players 18 to 22. Some of them to be cash cow no names black sheep picked just for money. Others of your 18-22 picked as depth or because you just happened to get someone better later. If you picked all 18-22 as no name black sheep you were going to screw yourself in the end by not leaving any margin for error with your "real picks", Hence there was that strategic lens.
The other strategic lens was as Wizards noted it was designed to incent people to bid on less thought of strong players who you would put in your 17 e.g a Jarrod McCracken. He won't lose you any votes and will hold his own and also give you $400k you can use to go all in on Lockyer for example.
You had to get some black sheep to be in contention in this game. How many you got was key, and if you could get some that made your 17 you were really trucking to the podium. That was the winning strategy that I had in my head when I made the game but I didn't want to give any tips towards that strategy at any stage. I just kept reminding people the game would be very strategic and hoped they would apply their mind to it.

You guys had s pretty quiet thread with only one post per month. I am not sure your thread can handle my participation levels. That said yes I will play both this year. I really hated SOO from a fantasy perspective and felt the game became a farce at that point. They said it is where the cream rises to the top but really it wasn't enjoyable and to do well in classic fantasy you have to sell Nathan Cleary in round 12 and buy a numpty half who won't see any SOO action and then be disciplined not to spend the profit to round 19 when you buy Cleary back. Who wants to do that?

We started the NRL fantasy thread on Jan 26 2024 and super coach thread started a few days later. i am going to start the fantasy thread today (as I am off work this week) and will leave someone who knows what they are doing to start the Super coach equivalent when you guys are ready.

I actually noticed it at the time but couldn’t be arsed raising it & then forgot about it. I bet there’s a couple of others that never played tests in there as well, sometimes in the excitement of the days criteria we forgot the number 1 qualifying question

I put in a bid for Noa Nadruku and then thought why has no one else bid on him. Forgot about test match criteria.

I remember i was after a Black Sheep and got excited cause i knew nobody rates this plonker.....easy $400k ......oh well too late now....table card!

Besides which i had $1.7 mill left in the last round......even without that 400k was still a shitload more than Inruin had left

Get into SuperCoach, that will keep you busy. Highly addictive & runs the entire season. I’ll set up a forum comp in a few weeks & you can choose to focus on head to head or overall. I’m an overall guy however plenty just focus on beating their forum opponent each week & making the finals. I’ve commenced pre-season training this week.

Feel like I'm quite happy playing fantasy? Knowing new rules for a game sounds time consuming. I don't have Wrighty s problem of Origin. I think it's a skillful aspect of the game.

I agree with you that head to head isn't that enjoyable and overall is nicer.

Your call on Fantasy, I’ve never played it so can only vouch for SuperCoach. I like the profile of it, commentators refer to it most games & you get the top scores at halftime etc. Not sure why NRL run a separate fantasy game.
