Are we adding to the list to get to 70-80? If so then does it matter if they’re better than Tate? Plenty are better btw
Might give a measure for which to add? Or a talking point?

Here’s a reasoned call on each name: whether they were clearly better, roughly equal, or below Brent Tate, who was a very good Origin/Test-level centre/winger, but not a long-term elite or multiple-premiership player.

🟢 Clearly better or at least comparable / justifiable above Tate

PlayerRationale
Greg BirdLong rep career (NSW, Australia, Titans leader); more impact and versatility than Tate.
Jesse BromwichMultiple premierships with Storm, Kiwi captain — > Tate.
Todd CarneyDally M Medalist, creative match-winner, though shorter prime — > Tate.
Andrew Fifita2016 GF hero, peak dominance, Kangaroos rep — > Tate.
Israel FolauSuperstar impact before switching codes; > Tate.
James GrahamOver 400 games (Super League + NRL), England captain, enormous influence — > Tate.
Tohu HarrisLong, consistent leader, premiership, Warriors captain — slightly > Tate.
Shaun JohnsonGolden Boot winner, defining playmaker of an era — comfortably > Tate.
Isaac LukeKey to Souths’ 2014 era, > Tate in influence.
Simon ManneringWarriors icon, NZ captain, 300 games — > Tate.
Willie Mason2004 premiership, Kangaroo/Origin regular — > Tate.
Michael MorganPremiership + Origin + Kangaroo five-eighth, 2017 GF run — > Tate.
Mitchell Pearce300 games, long Origin career, premiership — > Tate.
Sam Thaiday300 games, Test/Origin stalwart, 2006 premiership — > Tate.
Nigel VaganaLong Kiwi career, 100 tries, international star — roughly = or slightly > Tate.
Jared Waerea-HargreavesPremierships × 3, enforcer of Roosters dynasty — > Tate.
Craig WingRep utility, dynamic attacking weapon mid-2000s — ≈ or > Tate.
🟢 ≈ 17 players who could be rated at least as good as or better than Tate.

🟡 Roughly equal tier (same calibre as Tate)

PlayerRationale
Kurt GidleySimilar rep tally, versatility; ≈ Tate.
Joey ManuStill active, likely to end up > Tate, but for now comparable.
Josh MorrisSimilar-style long-term rep centre; ≈ Tate.
Frank PritchardComparable overall impact.
Glenn StewartHigh peak, shorter career; ≈ Tate.
Lote TuqiriMulti-code success; ≈ Tate in NRL standing.
Manu VatuveiTry-scoring machine; ≈ Tate in tier.
🟡 ≈ 7 players roughly level.

🔴 Below Tate in standing (good careers, not quite at his rep/impact level)

PlayerRationale
Matt CooperExcellent club/Origin career but slightly less longevity than Tate.
Ali Lauiti’itiCult hero, brief prime.
Josh HodgsonInjury-shortened NRL tenure; excellent but not long enough.
Karmichael HuntStrong early career but brief NRL stay before code switch.
Luke PriddisClive Churchill Medal winner, but shorter peak.
Tony PuletuaSolid forward, not elite tier.
Semi RadradraSpectacular peak, too brief.
Wendell SailorMost achievements pre-NRL-era (’90s); moderate NRL return.

I’d suggest Chat GPTs analysis of Wendell highlights caution in using it. Sailor was a phenomenal player. Radradra was also way ahead, as was K-Hunt

Fair enough

There are 33 players on your list. I would also like to add T Rex for meme reasons and Steve Matai unless his reputation is exaggerated. I am ok to be corrected.

That would 50 + 33 + 2 = 85 players
I believe 85 is too many. And 75 sounds like a better number. I can go through and suggest 10 to you to eliminate. OR do you want to have a crack? I would like some hooker options in the 75 even if it means prioritising a few hookers.

I’ll give it a go & anyone else welcome to contribute. I dunno on T-Rex, I’d argue that joke is even more stale than picking Langer, Stuart etc, also I wouldn’t put Matai in that top group of players, he could hit hard but beyond that I always thought he was fairly blah, but just my opinion.

Awesome. Thank you Mr B I look forward to seeing your proposal
Lets compromise, Eliminate Matai. Keep T Rex. Means you have to eliminate 9 instead of 10 if that makes sense.

Try to keep the 50 intact if that makes sense and eliminate the 9 from the new guys. Just a post script.

Gun to head think I’d leave out the following:
Matt Cooper
James Graham
Josh Hodgson
Michael Morgan
Tohu Harris
Josh Morris
Luke Priddis
Tony Puletua

That leaves 26 including T-Rex to add to the 49 excluding Lolo, however are there names within the 50 we should exclude for some of the above I’ve listed or others? I personally wouldn’t include El Masri for example.

Good work. Some hard calls there.
I want to leave the 50 intact. People could well already have been analysing it. And it would be upsetting to them if we excluded someone in their plans as a depth signing,
Can you please choose the better player out of hodgson and Priddis and put him in - please either eliminate one more player to compensate or advise if we should run with a list of 76 on the grounds too difficult to cut one more. We need one more hooker is the rationale to honour Warriors55 point and post.

Not fussed between the two, maybe Priddis in the basis of his 2003 GF performance which was pretty epic. If I had to remove a player then perhaps Sam Thaiday? Dunno, others might say someone like Mitchell Pearce.

Feel Wrighty and Brownstone will have lists and sub lists with option a,b and c.

The rest of us will wing it the first 2 rounds until we figure out how the games played then try to make their team work 🤣

You have half of October, all of November, and most of December to find a rainy day to prepare. In one afternoon you can break the back of a good a,b and c list.
That said even if some competitors come into it cold for the first two rounds they can easily be competitive as this is based on letters so there will be plenty of good players available as the game progresses.

Mean time can you give a second opinion on the following
1) Include Priddis over Hodges
2) Include Pearce over Thaiday
