Currently the 900k a year halfback is stuck behind Boyd and CHT for any game time. With the warriors on a hot streak of 5 wins, and a coach who is backing the current halves. Although also in the same statment, not having done anything wrong. "I am not looking to make any changes to them, they deserve it. We're just picking the team on form. Luke's done nothing wrong. And if the opptunity comes im sure he'll grab it" - Andrew Webster.

It doesn't look like metcalf will get anytime unless one is injured. Or form drops from one of the halves.

If he can string 4+ games together in cup without breaking something I reckon he might get some time off the bench.

Unless one of our premier halves is out for injury/hia/?
Then he might get a crack earlier.

My initial call would be Met back to starting 7 next year. Get the body right and hope for the best. I reckon Tanah can and will get swooped up by an Aussie Team sooner rather than later. He’s in career best form and will demand a big upgrade. He could stay loyal but ultimately makes sense to head back home with the young family.

On the flip side, do we see Metcalf tossing his toys and asking for a release by the end of season. It’s a tricky situation and I wouldn’t blame him to be fair. Young family again, was the franchise player last year but literally hasn’t finished a season in his career.

I was and still am a big Lukey Met fan and would love for him to get the body right. I just don’t know if we can afford to let Tanah go yet.

I'd start Luke at 7 v Broncos. CHT/Mets. We need to integrate him now. Give him a few games before Panthers. He's either our 7 moving forward or not. We can't dance around the issue. A 900k player sitting in Cup is not good.
This is likely I think - I know webby said no one is is getting shifted but bye week means tinkering and talking

Surely any decision on how he is reintroduced to footy should be based around what is best for himself and the team. Medical staff and trainers opinions are utmost in these areas

I don't care while we win. He like everyone else who aren't starting week to week are in the same good position of when you're up, you're up. This is a long and challenging season and he will be needed and I would be happy to see him mid to late season hitting his straps. I am in no hurry to play him and I'm sure whatever his pay cycle amount is, it's ok with him and Mrs. Metcalf. Get paid big bucks to sit down. This actually is a whacky method of prolonging his career. Just has to stay ready.

A 900k player sitting on the bench is weirdly cool to me. Like best backup halfback available. We need the whole top 30 to win this season so whoever is outside the gameday players week to week are still important. In fact they are vital.

Metcalf isn't currently getting paid 900k. If pay packet were to dictates who gets picked though, then Niukore and CNK would start alongside him.
Puts it in perspective nicely.

Dunno why how much a player is getting paid comes into it anyway.

Form doesn't follow pay packets.

Wanting to play someone because they cost you a lot of money is a Gamblers mentality, chasing losses.

We've had quite a few 'marquee players' over the years, even stock standard players on overs, I can't recall one we struggled to find a spot for or continue to perform without them. My preference for Luke would be to come back through Cup, which is something else we don't often see with big name signings, but we're arguably in a position to afford that luxury, I don't see why he couldn't have played Cup last week? He's gotta get some game time in somewhere before we can expect Metcalf 2025.

So far this season our halves have played injury free for 7/9 games (CHT, Mets) so I don’t get putting him on the bench with a 2/9 chance of playing and with serious rust, Boyd’s like freaking Iron Man if they get through the next 3 games to another bye then it will be “Luke could have had 4 cup games by now instead of getting a cold”
