General Warriors Preseason 2026

Anyone watching Panthers game? I can't get in front of a television but can see the Cowboys have a roll on. Is Crosby had any impact? Big step up for a guy who's yet to even start a NSW Cup game

Hard to tell, Penrith getting dominated. Hes had about 4 runs for 20 metres lol. Looks gassed

Not great IMO. But they are up against the cowboys A team, in hot north quessnland. So excuses are easy to come by.
When he was with us, he was an impact prop. Now he's starting into a fresh side in humid weather without putting on any body fat to at least cushion some of the blows. He had a couple of good runs. But doesn't look like he is demanding the ball. Made some decent tackles and controlled the ruck, but thats only when ran into. When introducing any lateral defense he is luck to make contact with the attacker. But this is against a very fast, mobile cowboys A team.

I guess we'll get to see AKP sooner rather than later in first grade. I wouldn't risk RTS for round 1 even if the hamstring is minor as reported. Dodgy hamstrings can ruin an entire season if not managed properly. Bit of a bummer but having AKP/Mellars waiting in the wings is better than last year when we had to rely on Taine or Kosi to cover for DWZ when he got done in that trial game.

I tend to agree, like I get the highlights got people excited and there is potential there, not hard to see why he was let go of the young crop, especially when you think hes around the same age as Laban, Demetric and EIT and they all looked right at home in a full first grade match.

There isn’t much talk around Hanson. Is he a chance to start the season at 6?
With the extra interchange spaces I can see a place for players like Hanson in the 5th and 6th spots.

A group of versatile players that probably won’t play most weeks who all rotate in and out managing game time.

I can see 6-8 players all rotating through those 2 extra spots with versatility being key.

I am cautiously optimistic having had heartbreak like all of us. Could easily end in tears, after round 1 last year I was thinking a shit season was ahead so need to give them a game or two to settle in before writing them off. If we get 50 put on us in round 1, we’re fucked as you you can’t win the comp conceding 50 so the saying goes

It's funny but I am really upbeat about this year.

As I get older I change the way I enjoy the Warriors. In my youth it was always attached to the dream, you know the one....I won't say it out loud for fear of....

I recon a lot of men attach the success or failure of their sports team to their own identity. I say men because I am a bloke and I dunno how Women process being a fan.

But the point I am making is that defining yourself by the success or failure of the Warriors is really bad for your health. I'm one of the worst people at doing that. The ole ego takes a hammering if you blur the lines between the Warriors being losers and yourself by virtue of calling yourself a Warrior lifer - you are going to see yourself the same way.....that cliche about insanity comes to mind, you know repeating the same mistakes....yadda yadda....and then when things get really bad you are living the serenity prayer like an addict....accept the things I can't change blah blah blah

I recon that is why a lot of us fans get lost. We get trapped in this win loss rewards system, and miss the opportunity to understand this thing that we claim to be experts in...I mean really understand it.

Let me stop waffling and use my own example. So some years ago I started focusing more on having empathy for the players and coaches. I did a deep dive into where these 'çrap coaches, and crap players' were coming from - their origins, figuratively and literally. Long story short, we have fundamentally broken system in the sport here in NZ. And the NRL salary cap is broken, especially when it comes to a system that is outside of Australia, and so where these people come from is a poor beginning.

We have Cappy now and the top down bosses. Every year the excitement builds as Cappy's system keeps winning on and off the field. Last year it really took off with the arrival of Leka, Laban, Dimitric, EIT, and to a lesser extent Tanner. I mean WOW our pathways exploded, and too a man they were ready, they were finished products as undergraduates of the system.

Then you factor in Webster and the changes he made to Metcalf, and the way he uses a game plan that suits the limited talent we have in our backs.

So yeah, I am excited this year, I don't give a shit about the ladder right now, I won't get sucked into this 'we better win this week ' mentality (that is an example of ego - my team good/that team weak, if we lose my team sucks).

Excuse the lecture. I read your excitement and felt inspired.

To be fair there’s been no best pre season dialogue, Webster just said it was the first time all players returned meeting targets that they’d set. While it’s encouraging, it really only emphasises the buy in from the players
The best pre season ever has become a bit of a meme at this point.

Similar to your point since Webster arrived besides some social media clips or longer form videos the pre seasons have been pretty quiet. In 2023 the best we got was some people on here posting that the players are buying into everything as they were learning a lot.

Last year the best I heard was more from the media who had seen some of the players saying that they all looked lean and in shape.

As the season is getting closer he will do more interviews. A line similar may slip out. If he did say it I'd say it is more the best pre-season since he's been here.

The pre-seasons need to change with the game speeding up so it is likely they will be doing a lot more cardio, likely running longer distances again. Teams across the competition are trying to lean up a lot of their squad. The other thing if a older player says it is the hardest pre season ever. Sure, they have done more pre-seasons but as you get older they also get harder to push your body through. It is often cited as the reason players retire, can't face another pre-season.

Great spiel and I hope I didn’t offend you yesterday, take everything I say in a joking manner as I’m rarely serious. I hear what you’re saying and personally I’ve learned to just wipe a loss quickly and move on with my day or night, nobody would be more disappointed than the players, though some are hard to take, I can’t recall but there were one or two last year- dolphins loss hurt right at the end but the exuberance of Halasima getting the knights evens it up. My nerves in game are shot to bits at times though and sometimes have to leave the room or fast forward parts if I’ve recorded. My excitement for this year comes from seeing a brotherhood and to your point think of that’s what it’s all about, even us on this forum with different views, it’s our love for this team that connects us and the want for success. I think too that that want just overspills negatively sometimes with undue criticism, I used to struggle with Kearney’s criticisms at times. Sure it’s fine to have a say and our views are worth considering and sometimes on the money, but digging the boot in is tough because they’re one of us. Even Robinson was tough with public remarks saying he wanted that man out of the club, but I think it was more around our issues with agent Isaac Moses at the time? I could waffle on too but share your upbeatedness for the season ahead

Finally get to see the boys play..... Keen to see the new recruits, be nice to see em hit the ground running Gannon, Mellars etc... as well as the young fellas getting a taste of 1st grade...
Incumbents may need to watch their backs this year... good for the club if that happens... Somehow I reckon were at a different level than this time last year...
