General Warriors Harold Matthews 2026

I think they'll probably go:

1. Liam De Har-Elliott
6. Vili Nawaqavonovono
7. Keanu Simpson
9. Kayce Perese-Sukroo
13. Christiano Elia

Alot of playmaking in that spine
Vilikesa Nawaqavonovono is a centre or wing. The only time I've seen him play league is for the Southern Scorpions at the U16 nationals and I'm sure half that team hadn't played league before.

Liam's a half or hooker. He has played a bit of fullback for Waikato but only because they didn't have anyone else. He was the backup 10 for Hamilton Boys at the Sanix school rugby world champs in Japan early last year as a year 11. A foot injury from the last game there took him out of the Matts and Super 8 seasons. He plays 6/7/9/14/1 probably in that order.

I haven't seen enough of Keanu to say where he's at as a league half. His defensive workload in league would triple or quadruple compared to rugby. I think he'll get up to speed quickly and Sacred Heart are one of the 1A schools that are happy with their 1st 15 boys playing for the Warriors.

1. Kaian Olsen (plays 1/6/2/5)
6. ?
7. ?
9. Kayce Perese-Sukroo (plays 9/13)
13. Christiano Elia (plays 13/6)
14. Agelu Malaesilia (plays 14/6/1)

I think Vili would be wasted at wing/centre, he’s played a lot of number 10 in union for Marlborough Boys. Has the playmaking chops to become an elite running half imo.

I’ve only ever seen Liam play fullback for Hamilton Boys and never seen him play league so can’t comment too much on that.

I haven't seen him play school rugby, just assumed he was a back as he played centre at the u16 league nationals and at Condors. He's got the build of a power centre but then so did Tusa-Sogia. It would be interesting to see what he can do in the halves, I just don't know that he'll get the chance.

Liam played 10 coming through the juniors grades at HBHS. All 10s should be able to play fullback and if that's where he played in 2nds, it's probably because there was an older or better 10 that's getting reps as the backup for the 1sts 10.

This is all guesswork, I don't get to watch much school rugby outside of Auckland unfortunately.

He has the ball on a string that kid

Expecting a big year from him. Just wish he’d get himself into shape…
Tore his ACL in the semi last year and had a shoulder reco from his game against Souths in 24. He got himself down to high 80s playing weight at the beginning of last year so he can do it again. Signed long term I heard.

Agree with this team.

Except I think Anakin Cairns from Gizzy will be on one of the wings. Very highly rated in first XV world.

I think Elia starts at lock and Keanu Simpson comes onto the bench for him.

Yeah I've been impressed whenever I've watched him. Very precocious skill level for a half. We just don't produce halves that have that kicking game and ability to control tempo at that age. Hopefully he can get an injury free run and get into reasonable playing shape.

I'd say he'll be the starting SG ball number 7 with Hansen at 6. Good competition behind him with the first five from Nelson and Ioka.

He came out of an Otara team that dominated the junior competition grades and won most of the ARL Grand Finals in the last 5 years which flowed onto their representation in Auckland reps. That team had Pua, the Mikaele twins, Marriot, Te Rore and others that have gone on to NRL contracts. Those boys have only known success and I believe they brought a lot of that confidence into last years Matt's team. Same goes for the St Thomas boys, BIshop getting the boys singing in the changing room prior to taking the field for the GF is a good example of the type of confidence that can't be trained or taught. That Otara team was captained by their youngest player, Jame Tulakaki who's now playing rugby for a private school in Toowoomba. He was something like 6.'2 and 150kgs as a 15 year old and last played for counties in their national u16s grand final loss. No NRL teams have taken punt on him despite him routinely pumping 40 quality minutes out a game. I imagine he must be dominating the school rugby comp there.
