Sports Touch

Cces

I reckon there's enough Touch fans in here for it to get it's own thread.

Finals day today at the Kaiawa Invitational. Māori+ are doing a good job with broadcasting.
Stealers vs Pearl Jam in the Men's Final at 4:30pm, which is a repeat of the 2025 decider.

Ifor Jones, Stealers, will surely go down in history amongst the greats like Peter Walters & Remus Gentles

We have two guys at our work who play a lot of touch.

One who sits close to me often has it on. Had a secondary schools tournament on a few weeks ago to watch his son. It was funny as at half time all of the games stopped and everyone walked off. The reason was serious as there was lightning warnings. Just saying funny as that game didn't have commentary and the sky wasn't indicating anything from what you could see on the camera. Workmate found out talking to his son later, I ended up searching for it.

Touch is quite good to watch when sides are well drilled and a team is working through their formations. Also when they sub and work their way to the sideline.

I get the total opposite with my sons team. Barely pass the ball and subbing ends up with a lot of confused yelling. His older brother at the same age their team was getting pretty good working as a team.

I play mixed social touch in Christchurch for a couple of teams. Just before Christmas we had one game where Jordan Riki from the Broncos was playing for the other side.

What position does/did he play in League? Rep player?

He was a 7/6 for Te Awamutu Firehawks for a couple of seasons.

Not a rep player but they only had a rezzies team so hard to get a look in in the rep space not playing prems. Lethal in space, but touch is definitely more their game.

He's involved in the Apex Academy down here which i believe is affiliated with the Wahs.

Isnt touch strategically aligned with the NRL?

Has anything tangible ever come from that?
We competed in a 8 team comp the NRL organised in 2019. That's all I recall. Covid might've killed it?
Some venues brought the hordings in to help make it more viewer friendly but playing amongst the League markings, which didn't include a 7m line, made it a less entertaining watch for mine.
