If we make the conditions suitable. Being Egans back up will probably wear thin. Will probably need to keep one and lose the other

This is the conversation that I wanted.

I want to see him play a bit more, but he's looking to be a bit of a weapon. My concerns are around his old man being an ex sharks player.

Might be tough to convince him that the grass is greener in Auckland..

With the amount of head knocks Egan’s had, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t play on past his current contract? That’s still 2 more years for Healey, but 2 years of learning from one of the best hookers in some facets of the game. A hint could be Tafua extended until 2028? Lussick seems excess? But can play middle forward too, something I think Healey needs to add to his arsenal

Healey is 22 about to turn 23. He's not going to sit in NSW cup for 2 years to do us a favour

So what’s changed since he chose to come here initially? Egan was signed until he is now when he signed, so he either came here to learn and take the games that come his way with a player in Egan that can pick up a knock and potentially needs a week off here and there or backed himself to take Egan’s spot. Think he’s a great player, but not the end of the world if he can’t see the big picture and earn it

Nothings changed, but the Sharkies probably had that same outlook and he left his home and junior club for a chance, which we gave him. If a club offers him a genuine shot at starting hooker next year, why would he bench warm for Egan? The pay difference alone would be massive.

This is a very different scenario than Metcalf where Webby handed him the keys and he's now in charge.

Reed Mahoney likely looking for a new home, Tallyn Da Silva unlikely to stay at tigers, Billy Walters likely squeezed out of broncos. These guys all have nrl experience with Healey only playing a couple of nrl games. A new franchise like Perth or PNG might take a punt, but he’s likely in the same position any club he goes to

Reed is cancer
Da Silva is as green as Healey - and also 3 years younger, 3 years extra earning time
Walters is rubbish

Healey's got the signs of being an incrediably creative and damaging dummy half. Early signs, yes, but I think we should be doing what we can to see how far he can go.

It's a bizarre concept to think about, given that we already have one of the best hookers in the game player for us.

Webster has mentioned that a bench spot is for a utility at this point and not a backup hooker. That’s why I mentioned adding something to his arsenal. Last year and previously we were carrying Lussick in case Egan broke down and often not using him. If we’re carrying an extra hooker, it needs to be by design that they’re bringing impact

Or we can develop him into a potential gun and use him as a bargaining chip or favors

Healey could quickly prove to worth running at 14 over a utility like TMM. I understand that webby wants a utility instead of a hooker this year by the looks, but that does not mean healey cannot change his mind if he proves to be impactful enough.

Given our injuries and lack of resources in the backs this year, I can see why TMM is required on the bench currently, but surely the plan moving forward to the pointy part of the year we'd be looking more at what is best for the team?

If we get 4+ games of Rocco and the outside backs going okay, id like to see how our team goes with having Healey on the bench with a clear plan to inject him 20-30 minutes into the game.

I really think a bench of Healey, Demi, Leka and Ford would be pretty damaging, that's a lot of impact off the bench (I'd have Marata starting at prop, and Laban starting on an edge).
Hopefully we get to see this moving forward

It’s so hard to know what the plan is? TMM not signed past this year, Lussick playing nsw cup this weekend at hooker and been playing middle forward, you’d think think Healey would have been getting some time in the middle from time to time if he was considered for the bench in first grade if utility is what’s wanted?

maybe he's just an insurance policy for Egan until our junior is ready to be first drop, a 3 year contract looks exactly what we needed to bridge the gap. Not settling with Lussick shows Webby's ambitions

I actually think an option is as Egan gets older he may swap onto the bench and healy to start. Youth to do the toughest part and Egan to come on when the sting is gone and add to the attack in the middle.
