The discussion centers on Rocco Berry's value to the team, especially his defensive contributions and kick-chase abilities. Recently, some users have expressed concern about Berry's recurring injuries and their potential impact on his future with the club. CWC #52 noted the importance of Berry's kick chase, which was noticeably absent in a recent game. Similarly, Tragic #60 stated that Berry's kick chase ability is essential for the team's long kicking game to be effective.
Several contributors highlight Berry's positive attributes when healthy, including his defensive efforts and potential for growth. Tookey 2.0 #69 expressed hope that Berry's recent birthday means he is nearing his physical peak and will experience fewer injuries. Mudogz #56 argued that Berry has been a locked-in starter for the last two seasons when fit, and his strong defensive game is crucial for the team's gameplay. Stalefish540 #63 sees Berry as a smart player who excels at the "1% plays" and has a lot of potential if he can overcome his injury issues.
The discussion also touches on the competition for center positions, particularly between Berry and Ali Leiataua. Some believe Pompey's performance warrants a permanent spot, leading to debate about whether Berry or Leiataua should partner him. Cces #42 raised questions about Berry's defensive capabilities after observing that opposing teams seemed to target him. However, the consensus seems to be that when healthy, Berry's defensive contributions, especially his kick-chase, make him a valuable asset to the team, despite his injury concerns, Stalefish540 #63 comparing him to a young Matt Cooper and hoping he can develop similarly.

big things in that kids future.
99% sure he played fullback at st pats in upper hutt. albeit in rugby.Does anyone think Rocco could be developed into a fullback? Physically he looks good for it, he's a good defender, we know he's very quick when chasing SJs kicks. It's just his passing right?
He was listed as a fb as a Wahs junior, presumably he had the skill set before focusing on outside back role in league.Does anyone think Rocco could be developed into a fullback? Webster spoke about the kicks to opposition wingers. Lower kicks giving opposition less time to get into position, blockers, and most importantly not allowing us to overchase it leaving gaps for them to run through.Need to see him develop a catching game (compete bombs etc)
Interesting tidbit on his logic but I agree we need to compete, it was an obvious weakness last year. How many times did the opposition either get the ball back or force an error when we were receiving? We seemed to very rarely get a challenge into a high ball at all.Webster spoke about the kicks to opposition wingers. I still prefer us competing for high balls though.
It's crazy to think he's only 22 and injury permitting, he will hit the half century for career games this year.I don't know if I have just gaslit myself into him being my favourite player or not, but man, he is good lol
At the moment, assuming RTS opts to rep Samoa, and Joey Manu is off eating croissants or sushi after this season, Rocco and Timoko are centres for the Kiwis at the end of this year for mine
I'd probably even have him in the best centre for the club discussion, by the end of his current contract, if he keeps going the way he has been, sue me
We could develop a short high kick similar to a rugby box kick. Short ball has its place in disrupting defensive structures.Interesting tidbit on his logic but I agree we need to compete, it was an obvious weakness last year. Can we just put Leiataua on montoyas wing? I live Montoya but I think Leiataua can bring more with him.I don't know if I have just gaslit myself into him being my favourite player or not, but man, he is good lol

Not that I have anything against what Montoya has been doing (would have been nice if he didn't try to bump Hughes, and just dug for the corner I guess..) but Ali isn't going to get a hell of a lot of game time over RTS or the GOAT, so don't see the harm in having him play left winger, learn from RTS, and then move in once he has some decent FG under his belt
what will make or break Webby as a coach is how he handles non injury related changes. What happens when some has a real drop in form and you got these young guys coming through killing it every week in NSW cup? what if we are winning and some one is playing average? does webby drop them or does he not touch a winning formula?I tried to begin that campaign but we didn't get enough signatures lol
