Patrick Herbert (born 10 January 1997) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer who last played as a centre for the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL.

Herbert previously played for the New Zealand Warriors in the National Rugby League.

He played junior rugby union for the Tamaki Rugby Club

In 2015 Herbert made the switch to rugby league and signed with St. George Illawarra.

In 2016 he re-signed with St. George, keeping him with the club until at least the end of 2018.

In 2018 he signed a three-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors, effective from the 2019 NRL season.

In Round 7 of the 2019 NRL season Herbert made his NRL debut for the New Zealand Warriors against the Melbourne Storm at centre, in place of the injured Solomone Kata.

After Herbert dropped the ball over the line against Cronulla-Sutherland in round 10 of the 2020 NRL season, he struggled to regain a place in the New Zealand Warriors team and was subsequently released.

During the first week of the NRL finals series, the Gold Coast Titans trailed the Sydney Roosters 25–24 with less than one minute remaining in the elimination final. After the Gold Coast Titans made a break, the ball was passed to Herbert, who then proceeded to throw a flick pass over the sideline despite two being supported by two fellow Gold Coast players, who could have potentially scored the match-winning try.

Herbert made 18 appearances for the Gold Coast in the 2022 NRL season scoring one try. The Gold Coast would finish the season 13th on the table and miss the finals.

On 27 March, Herbert was granted an immediate release from his Gold Coast contract.

@Damo

Thought I would continue here rather than derail.
The stats I gave wasn't about making him out to be some super star, he wasn't. I stated it because I felt he was good enough to be retain. I would feel you put those stats to any 22 year old centre (21 games 10 tries 18 goals) and you would say, they are worth persisting with.

Just giving an example of another center that was around when Herbert was is Adam Pomps, who now has 86 games, 22 tries and 28 goals and most of us before this year was like, we don't need/want him.

I'm just stating that I think he was decent at the Warriors and don't know why he was let go with those stats as a 22 year old who had a lot of room for growth.

Are those stats meant to be impressive? He was average at best mate. I know we like to look at some ex players with rose tinted glasses but he wasn't overly talented, didn't show much in attack or defense to make me think he was very good or missed when he left.

My argument is that Herbert is not 'very good' as you put it. He was average.
A 'very good' centre in my eyes is one that is bordering on rep duties, someone like Bradman Best for example is a 22 yo centre that has far better stats than Herbert did. I guess if you have a different definition on 'very good' then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Bradman best isn't "very good", he's a superstar in the making.

I think you're taking my 'very good' to mean more than it is.

He is very good in my eyes. Not a consistent rep player (yet) which would make him a superstar.
As I said, we must have different definitions of 'very good' which is fine. Patrick Herbert was nothing but an average NRL centre and nothing more.

What’s he up to these days?

I see the titans let him go last year so I guess he’s a free agent now? Still only 27 and a ton of nrl experience under him… I’d take him over Kosi every day of the week

I would too but I think we're pass him now. He's fine on a train and trial for NSW team.

He was coming off an ACL reco and the Titans had more athletic young players coming through so I reckon he saw the writing on the wall. We're in the same position in our NSW cup team so there'd be no point bringing him back. He'd be good in Japanese rugby where his skills would make him decent money IMO. Or one of the weaker Superleague teams might have room for him but he might not be eligible having not played for a year.

7 of those tries were on the Wing for true context.
He had one of the best debuts for the Warriors in recent history but if I remember correctly when he was up for renewal we already had Hiku, Pompey, Maumalo, Fusitu'a, RTS & Perham locked in for multiple years so it was more about circumstances rather than performing poorly

He wasn't the only culprit.

Fermor should have given it to Sami early on the left.
He gave time for Sam Walker to chase back.

Then the skip pass on the right allowed the defence to slide.

Herbert still would have had time to play the ball if he didn't pass it out.

I remember watching it live ( on TV ).
I was screaming for the Titans upset as were all non Rooster fans.

Couldn't believe it.

Reminded me of the finals game at Mt Smart when Logan Swann did the same thing right in front of me.

Refereed a game on Saturday and a ball hog cost his team two tries.

The old rugby adage for centres rings true. You beat one man and you're good, beat two and you're great, beat three and you're a greedy prick.
