International Pacific Championship

New Zealand fans (of all teams) got to see all 3 play in NZ.
Both of the Kiwi games were played at home.
I reckon it’s better that QLD and NSW fans both get an opportunity to watch some of the Pac Championships as well.
There was no guarantee NZ would make the final so isn’t it better they got 2 guaranteed games in front of the fans.
You can see the way this is tracking.

One game outside of Aus next.

Then one every few years.

Same model as the colonization of the world test match schedule. A game for NZ a couple of times a decade or so.

We should be grateful for these crumbs while we have them.

The NRL own Polynesia. They bought it in a Television deal, they just forgot to tell the indigenous people who this tournament was started for decades ago that they were going to buy the players, their flags, their sovereignty, their cultural identity.

Aussie are good at taking stuff that doesn't belong to them. They practiced on the Aborigines.

Shit. Controversial. And you're right.

The cynical side of me agrees and I point to the Denver test match as an example. Yes, there were several reasons it failed to be the independence the NZRL and RFL were seeking but is becoming a boon for the NRL via Vegas and soon the global round.
But, if the Warriors get to play in the USA more often then the Kiwis can leverage that with the support of the NRL. Imagine the Kiwis playing the MMT in San Diego or Kiwis vs Samoa in Honolulu, even a final against the Kangaroos in New York!

Only the NRL can make that happen..

I’d be really interested to know how revenue is dispersed like attendance money and the like? Also who is in charge of match fees for players of nations and what they are paid? Surely a portion goes to the nations that are playing rather than nrl controlling the complete revenue? Learning what origin players earn compared to internationals, it seems clear what format the nrl is trying to promote the most and the rules structured to entice players who play for nations deemed as second tier. A tournament without Australia selling out in Australia should tell the nrl this is the market they should be trying to grow

I'd say that the ARLC have the NRL in charge with participating national associations carrying out their typical responsibilities such as paying off the medical staff.. https://www.pm.gov.au/media/pacific-rugby-league-championships

From the Rugby League Players' Association.

$3,000 per game for Aussie players in the ashes compared to $30,000 per origin match. Players unlikely to be released for any matches set up independent of the international calendar and players want to play more internationals. With origin having tier 2 nations able to play, perhaps the Kiwis could play Great Britain and mid season pauses for origin and internationals?

He’s playing, threw a poor pass to his winger, who opened the scoring 5 minutes later. Live on Foxtel. 4-0, after 11

Jake Duke just said Niukore pulled out of the 1st 2 games for family reasons. Winner of this game goes to the RWC.

High stakes for Cook Islands. Sth Africa seem to have better halves, team stacked with NSW & QLD Cup players.

Can’t say I’ve heard of many.

Makes Haas' decision to rep Samoa a little weak considering he'll still be eligible for the $90 grand around Origin time, also a sure way to suppress the Kiwi eligible selection pool..

Madge has been linked to a coaching role with England.
Amazing how his coaching career has turned around post Tigers.

Kiwis weren't in a great place when he took over. Did well with NSW.

He was keen to be an assistant with Canberra, coach the Kiwis and NSW. Said he just wants to coach. Taking on a NRL job I can see an issue with the Origin job. Then the politics of it being NSW and the NRL job being a Queensland job. Shouldn't be an issue but people would have made it one.

I assume the link is from the English side (management, media). He's probably open to it as the inital year(s) taking on an NRL side would be the hardest.

Fox commentary in the Ferns test, it is noticeable how when NZ makes an error the tone is condescending and patronizing "it is pretty simple really hold the ball". When Aussie make an error "the Jillaroos will be filthy on themselves, it is not their usual high standards".

This is the problem with Australia owning the game, the Refs the messaging. Total control. Hope we smash them.
