💙 Mighty NSW Cup Team List: Settled side to face North Sydney - warriors.kiwi

A settled side has initially been named for the One New Zealand Warriors’ round nine New South Wales Cup clash against the Bears at North Sydney Oval on Sunday (1.00pm kick-off local time; 3.00pm NZT).

The only change listed from the side used in last Saturday’s victory over Newcastle sees Luke Hanson back from Jersey Flegg duty to replace Te Maire Martin at #6 (with Martin named on the interchange for the NRL team).

There’s also one change on the bench with Makaia Tafua brought in after playing for the under-21s last week.

The match will be the Warriors’ first away trip for a month after playing Newtown, St George Illawarra and Newcastle in Auckland in the last three rounds.

They followed up their only loss of the season against the Jets (20-28) at the Trusts Arena in Waitakere with wins against the Dragons (40-12) and the Knights (30-18) to hold top spot on the ladder with a 6-1 record.

Their performance against Newcastle produced two halves of vastly contrasting quality; they conceded three tries to trail 0-18 after a poor first 40 minutes but then slipped into top gear after the break with five tries and 30 unanswered points.

Martin was the orchestrator with a try, a game-high 191 metres from 20 runs, a line break, two line break assists, two try assists and five tackle breaks.

Hooker Sam Healey was also influential with a try, 155 metres from 11 runs (nine from dummy half), three line breaks, a try assist, eight tackle breaks and 24 tackles.

In all 13 players topped 100 metres as the Warriors bounced back from their first half effort to dominate all statistics.

They face a North Sydney side lying eighth which had a run of three wins on end halted by a 26-36 loss to Canberra last weekend.

The Bears have named a side including as many as five players who have been with the Warriors at some stage of their career.

Centre Compton Fuatimau made his 💙 Mighty NSW Cup debut last season while his centre partner Israel Ogden is a former junior Warrior.

Hooker Nathaniel Roache, who played for the Warriors at NRL, 💙 Mighty NSW Cup and under-20 level, is on the bench along with middle forwards Ofahiki Ogden and Phillip Makatoa. They both played for the Warriors in the 💙 Mighty NSW Cup and at under-20 level.

Ofahiki Ogden has played 113 💙 Mighty NSW Cup games for a number of clubs while Makatoa has 78 to his name, Israel Ogden 61 and Roache 53.
