NRL NRL Naughty chair

This is old school thinking and really doesn’t apply to this racism incident.

But I think if they were still allowed to punch on without the penalty of being sent off this might stop a lot of the bravado you see.
For example watching Leniu and JWH last year, if JWH put one on his chin this whole bravado thing could be squashed or at least reigned in.

When there is a threat of getting chinned on live TV guys would think twice about half the shit they do on the field.

An old school idea I know and probably outdated.

The purpose of the article was to show you why the term 'monkey' maybe considered racist.

Sometimes it's nice to educate yourself so you don't look like an arsehole on an internet forum but hey, everyone's allowed to do what the feel so good luck with your decision 🙃
Ohh thanks. As a half African man, living in Australia, I have no experience with the derogatory version of monkey/ape/gorilla. Nor am I familiar with Goodes or the Symons affair.

Thanks for input though.

Before the next person tries to explain racism or what is derogatory, please bear in mind my father looks exactly like this…

Being of a similar skin tone doesn’t give you a free pass to be a racist arsehole. This narrative of having to be white to be racist is false, racists come from all ethnicities sadly to all ethnicities, suggestions otherwise are just a cop out and a failure to take accountability for your actions.
Whether it’s tame to some or not Mam was reportedly in tears after the game so it clearly effected him.
The way Spencer carried on in the post match (how the hell did the Roosters PR let that happen btw) and allegedly later in the hotel implies little regard for another player and zero remorse, his brothers posts suggest it’s not unfamiliar.
Interesting to see if the NRL make a stand here or not

Again I’d rather not take a lecture on racism, bigotry, prejudice, bias and vilification as they are all nuanced, separate things.

Fucking hilarious 33yrs of telling white people “that’s racist” only to get told “no it’s not”. Then finally white ppl are like “that’s racist” and I’m like “meh not really”

If Leniu had said it to Renoylds, we wouldn’t have this conversation. Which means the word itself isn’t bad (see Montoya for reference). So intent and context is everything.

As for Leniu following it up, other outlets report it differently.

It’s all a big misunderstanding

He said Money

You are Money.

Can’t for the life of me remember the casino movie it was taken from … not hangover

Flip the script and if it had been Reynolds who said it to Leniu would it still be nothing?
Contextually it would be much much worse, as I’m sure Renoylds knows, so if he was to say it, there would be no ambiguity.

I’m not condoning it, but its seems a bit much. What about Dom Young calling an islander a “coconut”? This is surely a grey area. I agree the major slurs should be off the table.

Agree some people will see varying degrees of severity, in this case though I find it difficult to believe Leniu meant it in a nice way which opens himself up for scrutiny. Poor choice of words perhaps but similar to the Montoya incident a couple of years back once you say it it’s out there for scrutiny.
I’ll admit I’ve found myself as I get older I see the younger generation complain about far less than I had to take growing up but that doesn’t mean they should have to just deal with it either

Vossy saying half the season.. Leniu is an absolute grub of the highest order and should not have said it but that seems a bit much imo. I think a month is sufficient along with a heavy fine and some re-education.

A post off the cowboys forum

Has to be longer than Montoya's ban imo
Roosters prop Spencer Leniu was involved in a second verbal altercation with Ezra Mam back at the team hotel following their heated exchange at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

It came after a post-game interview in which Leniu asked for exactly that.

“Just a little bit of banter on the field,” he described the alleged racial slur to Nine, in a Sunday interview aired on Monday’s bulletin.

“Whatever he (Mam) wants to do with it, he can come and see me after if he wants.

“I don’t know. It was all just fun and games on the field, a bit of banter. If they want to do anything, we’re staying in the same hotel, so I’m right there.”

Brisbane players were confronted by Leniu only hours after the incident, with Kotoni Staggs and lock Pat Carrigan standing in between a second tirade aimed at Mam back at the team hotel.

The Broncos and Roosters squads were situated on the same floor of their Vegas hotel, with their respective team dining areas approximately 50 metres apart.

Mam, Carrigan and Staggs were returning to their rooms at Resorts World after the entire Broncos squad gathered for dinner at the hotel.

As they were walking back to their rooms, they reportedly ran into Leniu who was angry at Mam for not leaving the incident on the field.

Leniu reportedly first made a beeline for Staggs, who was walking slightly ahead of Mam and Carrigan. It is understood the pair exchanged words, although at no stage was there a physical altercation.

This could make it worse the fact he couldn’t let it go and more later on

If the forum can’t decide definitively if it’s even racist how are the players supposed to know?

They could come out with a list of banned words but they won’t because it’s context and offence is taken not given. Which means it will keep happening.

Australia had a culture of sledging and guarantee a lot worse are said many times in the NrL season but it never comes out.

Unless all sledging is banned its only a matter of time until the next person oversteps an unknown line without even realising it.

Leniu is an idiot but Mam is also mentally questionable for taking offence…

To give context I would find a sledge about my mother or sister being a ***** over a racist slur worse and I’m not white.

Would Mam be crying over that as well and how would the NRL handle it?
