It's been one heck of a good season for Dargaville sports club Bulls and things are only getting better.
The premier netball team took out first place in the Dargaville Premier competition and the senior league team made the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on the big win by a few untimely injuries.
This is the best result the club has had in the seven years it's been around.
Bulls is the only sports club in Dargaville that provides a rugby league team and its pool of harnessed talent is about to increase.
Whangarei and Dargaville rugby league development officer Joe Rau says he will be holding free coaching sessions in about 10 schools starting in term four.
"Dargaville has been recognised as a potential rugby league nursery. There are a lot of talented players who have come from Dargaville including Kiwi Sam McKendry."
The whole idea is to clue kids up on rugby league knowledge and build on talent for the future.
Mr Rau says ultimately they would like a Dargaville league competition.
He will be in Dargaville three or four times a week for eight to 10 weeks.
Bulls treasurer Dania Woods says they have already seen an increase in interest.
"The junior league boys have had an outstanding year. We've had about a 30 per cent increase in the number of kids who are playing league."
Last year the club had an under 9s and under 11s team and this year under 7s stepped up.
"The teams all got to curtain raise for the senior finals with the 9s and 11s playing before the match and the under 7s playing in the half time break."
The club's season isn't quite over. Touch starts in October and Miss Wood says they are expecting a good result.
